摘要： A process for the preparation of a film is described, in which a substrate is coated with a coating mixture containing a water-soluble polymer and a layered double hydroxide. The process of the invention is markedly simpler that conventional techniques for affording films having reduced permeability to degradative gases. The films obtainable by the process are particularly useful in packaging applications, notably in the food industry.

The LDHs are subjected to a solvent treatment step during manufacture, which confers high surface area and pore volume properties to the LDHs.
