Abstract: The invention pertains to certain perfluorinated thermoplastic elastomers suitable for being processed through additive manufacturing techniques, thanks to their surprising ability to possess better processability (notably more significant shear thinning at processability temperature) than corresponding perfluorinated thermoplasts, which possess similar product profile and hence performances, offering hence advantages in throughput and part design accurate control, containment of degradation, reduction of fumes, and yet delivering parts with outstanding chemical resistance.

Abstract: The invention pertains to a fluoroelastomer composition comprising: (a) a vinylidene fluoride-based fluoroelastomer [fluoroelastomer (A)] comprising recurring units derived from vinylidene fluoride (VDF) and recurring units derived from at least one additional (per)fluorinated monomer; said fluoroelastomer (A): —possessing a polydispersity index (IMWD) of between 1.5 and 3.5, —comprising an amount of polar end groups of formula —CF2CH2OH of at least 3 mmol/kg and at most 6 mmol/kg, and —further comprising end of chain groups of formula —CF2H, —CF2CH3, and, optionally, —OC(o)—RH (with RH being a C1-C6 alkyl group) in an amount such to satisfy the following inequality: [—CF2CH2OH]+[—CF2H]+[—CF2CH3H—OC(o)RH]≤30+(2×106)/Mn, (b) at least one polyhydroxylated curing agent; (c) at least one accelerant; (d) at least one metal oxide selected from the group consisting of divalent metal oxides; and (e) optionally, at least one metal hydroxide, wherein the amount of said metal hydroxide, if present, is below 3 phr, based on 100 weight parts of fluoroelastomer (A).

Abstract: The present invention pertains to electrode-forming compositions, comprising an electro-active material and a VDF based polymer comprising at least 70% by moles of recurring units derived from VDF, less than 0.9% by moles of recurring units derived from monomers comprising a functional group selected from carbonylic, carboxylic, sulfonic, sulfinic, phosphonic, hydroxy, —SH, ester or mixtures thereof, having a TM between 130° C. and 180° C. and comprising less than 700 mmoles/kg of chain ends —CF2H and —CF2CH3. The composition has good adhesion and is physically stable over time. The invention also relates to the use of said electrode-forming compositions in a process for the manufacture of electrodes, to said electrodes and to electrochemical devices such as secondary batteries comprising said electrodes.

Abstract: The invention pertains to a method for manufacturing a fluoroelastomer (A), wherein fluoroelastomer (A) is a (per)fluoroelastomer, where such method includes (a): polymerizing in an aqueous emulsion in the presence of a surfactant by feeding the following ingredients into a first reactor: (i) a monomer mixture (M1) comprising at least one monomer (F), wherein monomer (F) is a fluoromonomer, (ii) at least one iodinated and/or brominated chain-transfer agent(s), (iii) at least one branching agent possessing at least two ethylenic unsaturations; and (iv) at least one radical initiator, so as to obtain a pre-polymer latex (P); (b): recovering latex (P) from the first reactor and storing the recovered latex (P) in a storage tank; (c): feeding the recovered latex (P) from the storage tank into a second reactor; (d): polymerizing in the second reactor at least a second monomer mixture (M2) comprising at least one monomer (F) in the presence of a radical initiator, so as to obtain a final latex (F); and (d): recovering (per)fluoroelastomer from latex (F).

Abstract: The invention pertains to a method for emulsion polymerization of at least one fluoromonomer, said method comprising: (i) providing at least one aqueous emulsion comprising at least one surfactant and a monomer mixture [mixture (M)] comprising at least one fluoromonomer [monomer (F)] and optionally at least one additional monomer, and at least one RAFT/MADIX agent; (ii) initiating the polymerization of said monomer mixture in said aqueous emulsion adding at least one radical initiator; (iii) continuing the polymerization by adding additional amounts of said mixture (M) and said RAFT/MADIX agent, until converting the targeted amount of said mixture (M), and (iv) terminating the polymerization and recovering a latex of fluoropolymer [polymer (F)]; wherein the amount of RAFT/MADIX agent is comprised between 0.1 and 0.5% moles, with respect to the total amount of converted monomers of said monomer mixture, and wherein the amount of said RAFT/MADIX agent present in the aqueous emulsion when initiating the polymerization in step (ii) is of at most 50% with respect to the total amount of said RAFT/MADIX agent.
