Abstract: Disclosed is a communication method implemented in a home-automation system for a building including communicating elements including home-automation and network equipment, the communicating elements being connected to an unconfigured communication network, each communicating element utilizing a predefined communication protocol, and having physical and network addresses including a network prefix cut up into a plurality of addressing fields, at least one of which is not filled. The method includes steps, implemented by a first home-automation equipment item, of: receiving a message including a compressed header containing a first destination network address indication field and a second indication field indicating a fully compressed source network address; obtaining based on the header, without decompression of the source network address and/or of the destination network address, a recipient network element identified, and determining whether the first home-automation equipment item is the recipient; and processing the message as a function of the determination result.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for automatically configuring a network address of network interfaces of communicating elements intended to form part of a home-automation system for a building and belonging to an unconfigured network part, the unconfigured network part including a head network equipment item and at least one communicating element, the network address of each network interface including a network prefix. Abstract: A method of managing traffic in a communication network is implemented by a network interface of a communicating element during the transmission of a message on a physical link of the network, the message including a transmission priority level. This method includes the steps of: detecting an internal state of a data link layer, as long as the internal state of the link layer does not allow the message to be sent immediately: waiting for the internal state of the link layer to reach a priority state equal to or lower than the transmission priority level, increasing the transmission priority level each time the internal state resumes a busy state signifying that a signal is present on the physical link during this wait time; sending the message when the internal state changes to a priority state equal to or lower than the transmission priority level.
