Abstract: A wireless telecommunication system includes base stations for communicating with terminal devices. One or more base stations support a power boost operating mode in which a base station's available transmission power is concentrated in a subset of its available transmission resources to provide enhanced transmission powers as compared to transmission powers on these transmission resources when the base station is not operating in the power boost mode. A base station establishes an extent to which one or more base stations in the wireless telecommunications system support the power boost operating mode conveys an indication of this to a terminal device. The terminal device receives the indication and uses the corresponding information to control its acquisition of a base station of the wireless telecommunication system, for example by taking account of which base stations support power boosting and/or when power boosting is supported during a cell attach procedure.

Abstract: Method for providing a count indication of radio devices to a radio network, particularly in idle or in-active mode, comprising transmitting a presence message to a first base station of the radio network based on a reporting rule, which presence message indicates presence of a radio device within a dedicated coverage area of the radio network. The reporting rule may include a probability rule, wherein said presence message is transmitted from the radio device responsive to an outcome of a probability check, based on the probability rule, indicating that the radio device shall transmit the presence message. The reporting rule may also be transmitted responsive to the radio device making a cell reselection to the first cell. After receiving an acknowledgement presence message from the base station, connection setup to the network is terminated.

Abstract: Apparatus, systems, and methods provide for the cellular network to indicate preferences for controlling/regulating the background data traffic. Specifically, the network communicates a message to UEs that request that the UEs control background data transmissions. In response to the UEs receiving the message, the UEs reconfigure to control background date transmissions, such as controlling the volume of background data transmissions (e.g., reducing the volume of background data transmissions or the like). In specific embodiments the UE reconfigures by queuing background data and subsequently transmitting the queued background data at time intervals. As a result of such background data traffic control, the network experiences less radio traffic and problems related to cell overloading can be mitigated.
