Abstract: Systems and methods for audio in accordance with embodiments of the invention are illustrated. One embodiment includes a method for upmixing audio, including receiving an audio track which includes an input plurality of channels, each channel having an encoded audio signal, decoding the audio signal, calculating a first frequency spectrum for a low frequency component of the signal using a first window, calculating a second frequency spectrum for a high frequency component of the signal using a second window, determining at least one direct signal by estimating panning coefficients, estimating at least one ambient signal based on the at least one direct signal, and generating an output plurality of channels based on the at least one direct signal and the at least one ambient signal.

Abstract: Systems and methods for loudspeaker layout mapping in accordance with embodiments of the invention are illustrated. In many embodiments, loudspeakers are able to generate tones which are used by other loudspeakers to generate impulse responses. The impulse responses and the angles at which the tones were received can be used to determine the relative locations and orientations of the loudspeakers. In various embodiments, obstacles which obstruct the path of the tone can be identified and accounted for.

One embodiment includes a spatial audio system, including a primary network connected speaker, including a plurality of sets of drivers, where each set of drivers is oriented in a different direction, a processor system, memory containing an audio player application, wherein the audio player application configures the processor system to obtain an audio source stream from an audio source via the network interface, spatially encode the audio source, decode the spatially encoded audio source to obtain driver inputs for the individual drivers in the plurality of sets of drivers, where the driver inputs cause the drivers to generate directional audio.
