Provided is a display apparatus and method. The display apparatus includes an image analyzer configured to generate information about an input image, an image classifier configured to classify the input image by using the information about the input image, and an image processor configured to generate a mapping function for outputting the input image by using the information about the input image and classification information regarding the input image, and to set a maximum brightness value of the input image to a maximum brightness value which is input to the mapping function.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method are provided for performing detail enhancement. The apparatus includes an edge detector that detects an edge pixel from contents based on a luminance component of the contents, a histogram analyzer that generates at least one histogram with respect to the edge pixel and determines a gain variable value of the edge pixel based on the at least one histogram, and a gain regulator that determines a gain corresponding to the gain variable value of the edge pixel.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for converting a gray level of a color image are provided. The method of converting the gray level includes determining an intermediate RGB value which corresponds to an input RGB value of the color image, based on color mapping information in which target RGB values, mapped to the gray levels of the color image, are preset; determining whether the input RGB value is included in a gray region or a color region, based on a gray variation of the input RGB value; and, if the input RGB value is determined to be included in the gray region, converting the input RGB value by using the intermediate RGB value.

An image-quality improvement method is provided. The image-quality improvement method includes detecting an area of interest from an input image; generating a color distribution map based on a plurality of respective brightness elements and a plurality of respective chroma elements of a plurality of pixels which belong to a predetermined color series and which are in the detected area of interest of the input image; determining a first area, which belongs to the predetermined color series, and a second area, which is an area of the input image other than the first area, according to the color distribution map; and changing values of a plurality of pixels in at least one of the first area and the second area.
Abstract:
A display method and a display device for optimizing screen brightness of a mobile terminal are provided. The display method includes: determining an external illuminance value based on a sensor signal by detecting by the sensor signal for determining a brightness value of a screen; determining the brightness value of the screen corresponding to the external illuminance value; and outputting an image signal by using the brightness value of the screen.
