The electronic device includes a communication module, a memory and a processor operatively connected to the communication module and the memory, wherein the processor can be configured to receive, from a cloud server, through the communication module, a trigger event sensed by a first external device and rule information in which at least one from among a rule set, destination, and an operation command corresponding to the trigger event is mapped, so as to store same in a local rule database of the memory, receiving the trigger event from the first external device through the communication module, confirm, from the local rule database, the rule information mapped to the received trigger event, and transmit, to a second external device, through the communication module, information related to the trigger event on the basis of the confirmed rule information.
