Abstract: A method includes determining one or more controlled viewpoints of a multi-user display which includes a pixelated array and a directional multiplexer, and for each viewpoint of the one or more controlled viewpoints, determining first content to be displayed to the controlled viewpoint according to a visibility criterion. The method further includes, for each viewpoint of the one or more controlled viewpoints, determining a first subset of pixels of the pixelated array whose visibility from the controlled viewpoint satisfies the visibility criterion, and rendering the first content to be displayed on the first subset of pixels of the pixelated array.

Abstract: An apparatus includes a backlight, a color filter disposed in front of the backlight along a viewing direction, wherein the color filter includes a plurality of pixels repeating at a first spacing along a first axis. The apparatus further includes a lenticular layer disposed in front of the backlight, the lenticular layer including a section of material having a first index of refraction, a first, substantially flat side, and a second side defining a lenticularly patterned cross section along the first axis, the lenticularly patterned cross section including lens elements repeating at a second spacing and directing light originating from the backlight in two or more directions.

Abstract: A method of rendering content for display on a multi-view display includes assigning a first display to a first pixel of a pixelated array, with a plurality of pixels periodically spaced along a first axis, the first display associated with a first viewing angle relative to the first axis. The method includes assigning a second display to a second pixel of the pixelated array, display associated with a second viewing angle relative to the first axis. The method further includes controlling a filter value of the first pixel based on a rendering of first content for display, and controlling a filter value of the second pixel based on a rendering of second content for display. The first viewing angle belongs to a first range of viewing angles of an optical multiplexer disposed in front of the pixelated array.

Abstract: An apparatus includes a display device having a lenticular layer. The lenticular layer includes (i) a first side, (ii) a second side opposite the first side, and (iii) particles in a fluid medium between the first and second sides of the lenticular layer. The second side of the lenticular layer includes lens elements forming a lenticular array. The particles of the lenticular layer are configured to move within the fluid medium such that (i) the lens elements are filled with the particles in a first mode or (ii) the lens elements are filled with the fluid medium in a second mode. The display device is configured to operate as a directional display in one of the first and second modes and as a single display in another of the first and second modes.
