An image sensor having improved image quality is provided. The image sensor includes a first array of pixels, a second array of pixels, and a binning module. The first array of pixels has a color pattern formed in an n×m array and includes at least first-color pixels, second-color pixels, and third color-pixels. The second array of pixels is adjacent to the first array of pixels and has the same color pattern formed in an n×m array as the first array of pixels, to include at least first-color pixels, second-color pixels, and third color-pixels. The binning module is configured to, for a sensed image: perform binning on the first-color pixels of the first array, the first-color pixels of the second array, the second-color pixels of the first array, and the third-color pixels of the second array, and not perform binning on the third-color pixels of the first array, and not perform binning on the second-color pixels of the second array

A system, comprising: an image sensor including: a first pixel including a first photoelectric conversion element of a first phase group and configured to have a first exposure and the second photoelectric conversion element of a second phase group and configured to have a second exposure; and a second pixel including a third photoelectric conversion element of the first phase group and configured to have the second exposure and a fourth photoelectric conversion element of the second phase group and configured to have the first exposure; and an image signal processor coupled to the image sensor and configured to: receive a first image from the image sensor; receive a second image from the image sensor; and configured to output an image based on at least one of the first image and the second image; wherein the first exposure is longer than the second exposure.

An RGBW image sensor, a binning method in an image sensor, and a computer readable medium for performing the method are provided, and the binning method in an image sensor includes selecting one or more binning target pixels for each of a red pixel, a green pixel, a blue pixel, and a white pixel, constituting a pixel array of an RGBW image sensor with a uniform array pattern, generating binning pixel data for each of the red pixel, the green pixel, the blue pixel, and the white pixel, based on pieces of pixel data corresponding to the binning target pixel, and rearranging pixels, represented by the binning pixel data, to be equal to the entirety or a portion of the uniform array pattern and to be equally spaced apart from each other.
