A heat shield is disclosed having a first layer with a reflective surface, a second, heat fusible layer, a third insulating and reinforcing layer, and a fourth layer formed of pressure sensitive adhesive. The edges of the layers align with one another to form a common perimeter to which heat and pressure are applied to fuse the heat fusible layer to the other layers and bond the layers to one another. The heat fusible layer forms a seal on the perimeter that prevents the diffusion of fluids between the layers.

A method and assembly for protecting a device connected to a wiring harness is disclosed. The assembly includes a protective shield having a bore for receiving the device and a positioning device. An elongated wiring harness extends from the device being protected and through the bore of the protective shield. The positioning device is formed having a band that surrounds a central space. At least one flexible, resilient finger extends radially inwardly from the band into the central space. At least one of the fingers forcibly engages the harness sleeve to maintain the positioning device and the protective shield in a predetermined protection position along the harness sleeve at least partially surrounding the device being protected.

An assembly for protecting a sensor connected to a wiring harness is disclosed. The assembly includes a heat shield having a bore for receiving the sensor. An elongated harness sleeve extends outwardly from the sensor and through the bore of the heat shield, the harness sleeve surrounding the wiring harness. A positioning device for holding the heat shield at a predetermined position along the harness sleeve engages both the harness sleeve and the heat shield. The positioning device is formed from an elongated band that surrounds a central space. A plurality of flexible, resilient fingers are positioned on the band and extend inwardly into the central space. The fingers forcibly engage the harness sleeve to hold the device and the heat shield with which it is engaged in a predetermined position along the harness sleeve surrounding the sensor.

The invention provides a substrate. The substrate includes a plurality of first filamentary members oriented in a first direction. The first filamentary members are arranged in spaced apart relation to one another. The substrate also includes a plurality of second filamentary members oriented in a second direction transverse to the first direction. The second filamentary members are spaced apart from one another. The second filamentary members are interlaced with the first filamentary members to define an open mesh. The substrate also includes a plurality of elongated strips of non-woven material oriented in the first direction. Each of the non-woven strips is positioned between at least two of the first filamentary members and interlaced with the second filamentary members.
