    摘要: A suspension assembly is designed to carry a slider and read/write head elements in a magnetic data storage device. The suspension assembly is formed from a composite laminate structure that includes first, second, third, fourth and fifth material layers. The layers are arranged such that the second layer is disposed between the first and third layers, and the fourth layer is disposed between the third and fifth layers. The laminate structure is configured using a suitable removal process, such as partial chemical etching, to define a mount plate, a hinge, a load beam functional end, and an electrical lead system. The laminate structure may be further formed with a flexure gimbal system that comprises the third, fourth and fifth layers.

    摘要: Disclosed are an electrical connection assembly for a data storage device and a method of fabricating the electrical connection between a transducer termination pad formed on a slider and a suspension having a conductive lead structure. A compliant cantilevered conductive pad is formed at the end of the conductive lead structure. A solder bump is formed on the transducer termination pad, and may be formed subsequent to dicing the sliders. The slider is placed in mechanical contact with the suspension for mechanical support such that the solder bump contacts the cantilevered conductive pad, which cantilevered conductive pad complies with the solder bump to absorb positional errors. Then, the solder bump is heated, preferably by a laser, so as to reflow the solder bump to make an approximately right angle solder fillet joint electrical connection with the cantilevered conductive pad.

    摘要: Disclosed is an integrated lead suspension flexure attachment structure for a micro-actuator with a slider/transducer assembly attached thereto, having a plurality of electrical terminals for both the micro-actuator and the transducer. The suspension provides low gimbal stiffness and allows the slider to have correct pitch and roll static attitudes. An attachment platform is provided for mechanically attaching the micro-actuator. Two elongate cantilever compliance members extend from the transducer edge and the opposite edge of the attachment platform. Two lead termination platforms are provided, each at the distal end of one of the compliance members. The lead termination platforms extend laterally to either side of the compliance members. Electrical leads are positioned laterally of each of the lead termination platforms on either side, and loop towards the compliance member to the lead termination platform to reduce stiffness of the leads. The two lead termination platforms each supports the electrical leads at either side of the compliance member and the compliance members allow flex between the attachment platform and the lead terminations for connecting the leads to the micro-actuator.

    摘要: A technique for electrically interconnecting a disk drive suspension assembly and a micro-actuator mounting a transducer-carrying slider. A first set of termination pads is provided on a generally planar surface of the micro-actuator, adjacent a front edge portion of the micro-actuator. A set of leads is provided on the suspension assembly so as to extend generally orthogonally to the first set of termination pads and in adjacent relationship therewith. Electrical connections are provided between the first set of termination pads and the suspension assembly leads. A second set of termination pads can be provided on the micro-actuator planar surface adjacent to a front edge portion of the slider and a third set of termination pads can be provided on the slider front edge portion. The second and third sets of termination pads are then electrically connected.

    摘要: A disk drive is provided with controlled pitch static attitude of the sliders in an integrated lead suspension head gimbal assembly. The integrated lead suspension includes a load beam, a mount plate, a hinge and a flexure made out of a multi-layer material. Localized heating is applied to the outrigger leads during the process of forming flexure legs to set a stable pitch static attitude, which does not change, by subsequent thermal exposures.
