摘要: A system for conducting measuring corrosion rates in a multiphase environment using electrochemical and weight-loss measurement methods on test coupons is provided. A plurality of inserts is disposed within a test vessel in a vertical arrangement. Each insert is provided with at least one test coupon and at least one working electrode that are exposed to the corrosive test environment within vessel. A test fluid mixture is added to the vessel and the temperature and pressure is maintained such that the mixture exists in a multiphase condition that has a vertical stratification such that each insert is exposed to a different phase of the fluid. Electrical signals from the working electrode is measured to determine the corrosion rate using an electrochemical method. The pre-test weight of the coupon is compared to the post-test weight to determine the corrosion rate using a weight-loss method.

摘要: A cathodic protection system that comprises a vessel for containing a fluid, an anode positioned inside the vessel, a hydrophilic and oleophobic coating covering at least a portion of the anode, wherein the coating allows ions to pass therethrough and repels oil and wax contaminants from reaching at least a portion of the anode, and an impressed current source electrically connected to the anode and the vessel, the vessel being a cathode when current is applied from the current source. A corrosion protection method coats at least a portion of a suitably sized anode, with a material having hydrophilic and oleophobic properties, positions the coated anode in the vessel, and fills the vessel with fluid. A voltage is applied between the vessel and the anode so that ions flow from the anode, through the fluid, to the vessel.

摘要: An apparatus for in-situ monitoring and measuring of general corrosion and localized microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) in a simulated environment is provided. The apparatus includes a chamber containing an electrolyte solution and a microbe specimen. The chamber includes a pair of electrical resistance (ER) probes that measure a current flowing through the electrolyte solution and a general corrosion rate on the surface of the ER probes. The chamber also includes a pair of electrochemical noise (EN) probes. The EN probes are aligned to face one another such that the EN probes measure a localized corrosion rate on the surface of the EN probes and measure the influence of gravity on MIC. The apparatus measures the general and localized corrosion rates simultaneously without polarizing the surface of the ER and EN probes.

摘要: A system for measuring corrosion and corrosion-erosion rates in a high temperature, high pressure multiphase dynamic environment includes a plurality of ring-shaped test coupons disposed within a test vessel in a vertical arrangement relative to one another. A test fluid mixture is added to the vessel and the temperature and pressure are maintained such that the mixture exists in a multiphase condition that has a vertical stratification such that each test coupon is exposed to a different phase and/or combination of phases of the fluid. Impellers can be used to stir the fluid to provide a dynamic environment. The fluid can include particulate matter to simulate real world test conditions. Separator plates can be disposed at different vertical locations within the vessel to maintain separation between various phases of the fluids and further restrict particulate matter from migrating between sections of the test system.

摘要: A system, apparatus, and method for analyzing cathodic protection (CP) current shielding of a coating are provided. The system includes: a test cell configured to have a coating film disposed therein and to be filled with electrically conductive solution surrounding the coating film; an electrical resistance (ER) probe mounted through a port of the test cell; and a potentiostat configured to: apply potential to the test cell to thereby polarize a sensing element of the ER probe such that the ER probe is configured to measure data indicative of a corrosion rate of the sensing element when the coating film is disposed within the test cell and while a CP current flows through the sensing element; and measure a current density through the sensing element in order to indicate an extent of CP current shielding of the coating film.
