Abstract:
A decorative overlay comprised of thin plastic or metal may be securely fastened to a wheel using one or more preformed, solid, dimensionally stable, heat-activatable adhesive bodies. The use of such adhesive bodies offers significant processing and performance advantages over conventional methods for cladding wheels.
Abstract:
A combination of (A) a nitrogen containing water soluble polymer, (B) a water insoluble film forming polymer, and (C) gas filled, polymer walled microballoons provides a superior thermally releasable coating that (i) can be conveniently and reliably coated from a water based solution and dispersion onto surfaces to be protected against painting, (ii) is reliably stable at ambient temperatures, (iii) even after being coated with many times its own thickness of accumulated paint particles, rapidly disintegrates, along with the accumulated paint coating formed on it, upon contact with hot water, into particles of a size that readily escapes from standard paint booth grate structures, (iv) detackifies any paint particles that escape during distintegration of the combined thermally releasable coating and paint residues accumulated thereon, and (v) disintegrates into particles that float on water, so that they can be readily removed from the grates by immersing the latter in hot water, allowing a few minutes for the disintegration to take effect, and then skimming off the floating solids on the surface of the water.
Abstract:
Amino resins that contain more free formaldehyde than is desirable for health and/or pollution reasons can be treated with a mixture of diketo reagents (or their nitrogen analogs) and other compounds containing amino moieties to reduce the free formaldehyde content while not diminishing, and in some cases even enhancing, the ability of the resins to function according to their normal uses. The invention is especially useful for melamine-formaldehyde resin dispersions useful to detackify paint.
Abstract:
An improved aqueous liquid composition for power washing of paint masks contains: organic film-forming polymer, preferably polyacrylamide; inorganic salts, preferably a combination of alkali metal pyrophosphate, metaborate, and tetraborate; and dissolved organic molecules that (i) are hydrocarbons except for having hydroxyl substituents and, optionally, having one or more other types of substituents selected from halogen atoms, keto groups, and aldehydo groups and (ii) have a number ratio of oxygen atoms to carbon atoms that is at least 0.5; and, optionally but preferably, free boric acid.
