    摘要: Techniques for providing directional force induction in a handheld device for use in, e.g., personal navigation applications. In an exemplary embodiment, a magnetic element is provided on a mechanical support fixedly attached to a chassis of the handheld device. One or more conducting coils surround the support. Current is generated in the one or more conducting coils to accelerate the magnetic element relative to the support, causing a tactilely perceptible force to a user of the handheld device due to the recoil of the chassis from the movement of the magnetic element. In an exemplary embodiment, passive movement of the magnetic element due to, e.g., physical jostling of the handheld device, may be used to deliver energy back to the system for energy harvesting.

    摘要: At least one feature provides a way to perform point-to-multipoint transmissions using adaptive or directional antennas while reducing antenna pattern distortion. Generally, rather than transmitting the same waveform to two or more receivers, an information-bearing signal is transformed into different decorrelated waveforms and each decorrelated waveform is transmitted to a different receiver. In one implementation, an information-bearing signal is transformed into two decorrelated signals such that their crosscorrelation, or autocorrelation of the information-bearing signal, is zero or very small. Such decorrelation may be achieved by sending a first signal to a first receiver while sending a second signal, having a radio frequency spectrum that is the spectrally inverted version of the first signal, to a second receiver. In another implementation, a first signal is transmitted to a first receiver and is also transmitted to a second receiver with a time delay.

    摘要: Various schemes are provided that facilitate a communication handoff from a current base station to a target base station. One feature provides for reducing the search space that a base station searches by providing it with the position/location and/or velocity of an access terminal with which it attempts to communicate. Having the position and/or velocity of the access terminal, a current or target base station is able to reduce its search space (e.g., direction, frequency range, and/or time window) for the access terminal. Another feature provides for selectively and gradually increasing the power of a pilot signal originating from the access terminal during the handoff acquisition period to a target base station. By increasing the pilot signal power, the base station has a better chance of acquiring the signal and do so more quickly.

    摘要: A system and method for narrowing the range of frequency uncertainty of a Doppler shifted pilot signal in a satellite or other communications system with relative signal source and receiver motion. The satellite communications system includes a user terminal (for example, a mobile wireless telephone), a gateway (terrestrial base station), and at least one satellite with unknown position and unknown relative velocity. The method includes the steps of shifting the pilot signal over a plurality of frequency hypotheses, coherently accumulating samples of the pilot signal over a plurality of chips, measuring the energy of the accumulated pilot signal samples, accumulating the energy measurements over a plurality of chips to produce an energy accumulation value, and determining which of the plurality of frequency hypotheses results in the highest energy accumulation value.

    摘要: Force feedback in a gaming controller is provided by a motion induction device having an untethered mass. The mass is accelerated and decelerated to provide directional force feedback to a user of the gaming controller. The forces may be applied in a game controller shaped to simulate a tennis racquet, baseball bat, gun, steering wheel, or golf club. A sensor may be included in the game controller to provide information for adapting the force feedback. For example, in a game controller simulating a golf club an accelerometer may measure the speed and motion of the golf club, and the game controller provides force feedback through the motion induction device to simulate impact with a golf club or train a user to swing in a desired motion.
