Abstract: A spinning reel includes a spool shaft, a handle, a pinion gear, a first intermediate gear, a second intermediate gear, and a reciprocating mechanism. The first intermediate gear is rotatably disposed around a first shaft parallel to the spool shaft. The first intermediate gear includes a first large-diameter gear which meshes with the pinion gear and a first small-diameter gear which integrally rotates with the first large-diameter gear. The second intermediate gear is rotatably disposed around a second shaft parallel to the first shaft. The second intermediate gear includes a second large-diameter gear which meshes with the first small-diameter gear and a second small-diameter gear which integrally rotates with the second large-diameter gear. The reciprocating mechanism includes a driven gear which meshes with the second small-diameter gear and reciprocates the spool shaft in the front-rear direction.

Abstract: A spool for a dual-bearing reel includes a bobbin trunk having a tubular shape, a pair of flanges and a plurality of first through holes. Each flange is provided on opposite ends of the bobbin trunk, each flange having a circular shape and a larger diameter than the bobbin trunk. Abstract: A spool brake device for a fishing reel includes a velocity detector, a spool controller and a spool brake. The velocity detector is configured to detect a rotational velocity of a spool. The spool controller includes an acceleration generator, an acceleration determiner and a brake time predictor. The accelerator generator is configured to generate time-series data of a rotational acceleration based on the rotational velocity. The acceleration determiner is configured to determine whether the rotational acceleration has satisfied a predetermined condition based on the time-series data of the rotational acceleration. The brake time predictor is configured to set a prediction starting time based on a point of time at which the rotational acceleration has satisfied the predetermined condition and to predict a brake starting time of the spool based on the prediction starting time. The spool brake is configured to start braking the spool at the brake starting time.

Abstract: The spool brake device is equipped with a brake unit, a detector, and a controller. The controller controls the braking force by the brake unit based on the variation of the rotational speed of the spool detected by the detection unit. When the rotational speed is increasing, the controller controls the braking force by the brake unit in the regular braking mode. In the regular braking mode, the controller changes the braking force by the brake unit according to the rotational speed of the spool. In addition to it, when the rotational speed of the spool stops, the controller is to control the braking force by the brake unit in the first braking mode, during a period of predetermined time. In the first braking mode, the controller makes a braking force by the brake unit that is less than the braking force in the regular braking mode. In addition, after the predetermined time, the controller may make a braking force in a second braking mode by the braking unit that is less than the braking force in the first braking mode.
