摘要： An IRD 103 supplies broadcasting data on a bus in a desired time period. When the IRD 103 performs a reservation of the bus usage, the IRD 103 requests current bus usage information and information of the bus reservation from all devices connected by the bus, such as a DVD 104, a D-VTR 101, a D-VTR 102, a CAM 105, a TV 100, and a isochronous manager 107 of the D-VTR 101. The isochronous manager 107 and each device answer by sending the bus usage information and reservation information to the IRD 103. The IRD 103 judges a possibility of the reservation from the answer information. If the reservation is possible, it performs the reservation operation. If the reservation is impossible, then the reason is displayed on a TV 100. Therefore, it is possible to prevent a usage of a device that excesses the bus transferring capacity.

摘要： In a data recording apparatus capable of recording data while varying the amount of data per unit of time (at a variable rate), the present invention makes it possible to indicate an allowable recording time period on a disc and operational information according to user-specified setup conditions and the remaining capacity of the disc when a user determines conditions for record programming. An allowable recording time period on the disc is calculated on the basis of the remaining capacity of the disc and at least one of the following parameters; a maximum variable-rate value, a minimum variable-rate value, and an average variable-rate value to enable recording video data in most cases. Then, the result of calculation is displayed on a screen. Further, according to user-specified setup conditions including a programmed recording time period and the calculated allowable recording period on the disc, it is determined whether a normal variable-rate recording operation is applicable or an adjusted variable-rate recording operation is required. The result of the determination is displayed on a screen which is so arranged that the user can select either the normal variable-rate recording operation or the adjusted variable-rate recording operation.

Upon request from another device, the device sends the requested data stored in the self-information memory. When function data is received, the devices executes an instruction indicated by the data. When a plurality of devices each including the self-information memory are connected to each other via a bus or the like in a form of a network, at least one of the devices, includes, in addition to the self-information memory, a connected device memory to store therein device name data of all of the connected devices and a communication pair memory to store therein function data of the communication partner. The master device requests the other devices for device name data thereof, and stores the received data in the connected device memory. Thus, by referring to the device name data stored in the memory, the control device recognize the device name of the connected device. Also, the master device requests the other devices for function data thereof, and stores the received data in the communication pair memory. Therefore, by referring to the data stored in the pair memory, the master device recognize the function of the communication partner. Thus, when a function is selected and function data related thereto is sent to a communication partner, the function can be accordingly executed.

Therefore, by referring to the data stored in the pair memory, the master device recognize the function of the communication partner. In consequence, when a function is selected and function data related thereto is sent to a communication partner, the function can be accordingly executed.

Consequently, the user can be prevented from accidental disconnection of the cable of a subject electronic device, thereby preventing the disconnection of the device from the network.
