    摘要: A liquid crystal display of a vertical alignment (VA) mode using a circular polarization plate is provided which can reduce light leak as observed along an oblique direction and achieve a high contrast ratio. The VA mode uses a liquid crystal layer of vertical alignment in an initial alignment state. A film having generally isotropic optical characteristics in an omnidirection is used as a protective film, on a liquid crystal cell side, of first and second polarization plates disposed outside the liquid crystal cell, and first and fourth retardation films have an Nz coefficient smaller than 1.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate provided with first and second electrodes, and a second substrate disposed to be opposite to the first substrate via a liquid crystal layer. Regions of pixels each having the first and second electrodes are arranged in a matrix, and the liquid crystal layer is driven by an electric field in an in-plane direction of the first substrate, applied between the first and second electrodes. A step difference is formed at an opposite side of the first substrate for each of the pixel regions. The first or second electrode includes a wall-shaped electrode formed at a side wall surface of the step difference and a planar electrode formed from an edge of the wall-shaped electrode along the main surface of the first substrate. The wall-shaped electrode and the planar electrode are electrically connected to each other.

    摘要: Provided is a liquid crystal display device including: a first substrate; a second substrate; a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the first and the second substrates; a first polarization plate placed on a side of the first substrate; a second polarization plate placed on a side of the second substrate; and a pixel electrode and a common electrode which are provided on the side of the second substrate on which the liquid crystal layer is placed, in which: at least one of the pixel electrode and the common electrode is interdigital; and the liquid crystal layer has flexoelectric coefficients e11 and e33, both absolute values of which are +7 pC/m or less. Accordingly, a flicker intensity in an IPS liquid crystal display device is suppressed to such a degree as not to influence display quality.
