The present invention concerns a composition for a pyrotechnic compound that can be used as a thermal fuse in a gas generator comprising a pyrotechnic charge, said pyrotechnic compound having a self-ignition temperature that is lower than that of the pyrotechnic charge of the generator so as to be capable of initiating combustion of the pyrotechnic charge in the event of abnormal heating of the generator before said pyrotechnic charge reaches its self-ignition temperature. This composition is characterized in that it can be metered out and deposited in the form of an adhesive onto any appropriate support of the generator.

The main subject of the present invention is a solid pyrotechnic gas generator compound, the composition of which contains, expressed in weight percentages: from 60 to 70% of guanidine nitrate, from 26 to 33%, advantageously 26 to 30%, of potassium perchlorate, from 2.5 to 6% of at least one combustion modifier chosen from transition metal oxides, the precursors of such oxides and mixtures thereof, from 0 to 6% of at least one additive, and does not contain an explosive ingredient. Such a compound is particularly effective for the inflation of side airbags.

Said compounds have a composition which comprises: an oxidizing charge which comprises at least one inorganic perchlorate and which does not comprise a chlorine scavenger; and a crosslinked, oxygen-containing hydrocarbon binder obtained by crosslinking an elastomer in the presence of at least one crosslinking agent and at least one oxygen-containing plasticizer for said elastomer; said elastomer having a molecular weight of more than 200 000 and being preferably selected from polyesters and polyacrylates; said at least one oxygen-containing plasticizer being composed of a plasticizer of which the molecular weight is greater than 350 g/mol and the oxygen balance equal to or greater than −230 %, of a mixture of such plasticizers with one another or of a mixture of at least one such plasticizer with at least one other oxygen-containing plasticizer. Said compounds can be obtained continuously by extrusion.
