摘要: A cutting element includes a body, a non-planar cutting face formed on a first end of the body, and an edge formed around a perimeter of the cutting face. The cutting face includes a central raised portion, and the edge has an edge angle defined between the cutting face and a side surface of the body. The edge angle varies around the perimeter of the cutting face and includes an acute edge angle defined by a portion of the cutting face extending downwardly from the edge to a depth from the cutting angle. The portion of the edge defining the acute edge angle may be directly adjacent: a side surface of the cutting element; a bevel of the cutting element; or a flat region at the perimeter of the cutting element or bevel.

摘要: A downhole cutting tool includes a tool body having a tool axis, and a blade extending from the tool body. The blade includes a cutting face, a trailing face, and a top face extending between the cutting face and the trailing face. Cutting elements are attached to the bade along the cutting face, with each having a cutting crest at a peak height and a reduced height extending laterally away from the cutting crest. In some cases, first cutting elements along the cutting face and second cutting elements along the top face and rearward from, and at the same radial position as, the first cutting elements have different size, orientation, geometry or material properties. In additional aspects, at least two cutting elements on the blade have differing material properties, sizes, orientations, or working surface geometries along a blade profile of the blade.

摘要: A tool includes a base with a crown extending from the base. The crown is additively manufactured on the base, forming a bond between the crown and the base. At least one protrusion may extend from the base surface into a recess in the crown, such that the crown encompasses the protrusion. The protrusion may mechanically interlock the base and the crown to improve torque transfer between the crown and base. The bond at the contact between the base and crown may include impregnating at least a portion of the crown with the material of the base, or at least a portion of base with the material of the crown, which may improve a connection between the crown and base.

摘要: A percussion drilling assembly includes a housing and a drill bit within a lower end of the housing. At least one of a piston or an anvil is within the housing above the drill bit. The drilling assembly also includes at least one sensor in at least one of the housing, the piston, or the anvil. A method of drilling includes drilling a formation with a percussion drilling assembly, the percussion drilling assembly having at least one sensor located in a component thereof. The at least one sensor may measure at least one property of the percussion drilling assembly while drilling. The measurements taken by the at least one sensor may be analyzed and a new percussion drilling assembly designed based on the analysis.
