The Node B transmits the transmission resource allocation information to the UE over the downlink control channel, and receives the HARQ packet through the HARQ operation using the transmission resource for the valid duration.

Disclosed is a mobile telecommunication system in which packet data is transmitted over an uplink, and particularly a method and an apparatus for transmitting control information from a UE to a Node B. By multiplexing, several upper layer data units and MAC layer control information are included in a packet which the UE transmits during one transmission period in the uplink. A header of the packet accommodates multiplexing information, and thus the Node B uses the multiplexing information for demultiplexing upper layer data units from the packet. When the packet accommodates only the MAC layer control information, the UE does not insert the header into the packet, thereby reducing the packet size. The Node B then determines whether the packet includes only the control information or the upper layer data units together with the header.

Improving communication efficiency in handover re-establishing an ARQ entity in a mobile communication system is disclosed. The method includes transmitting first Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) Packet Data Units (PDUs) correctly received from the source cell, together with a special indication requiring reordering of the first PDCP PDUs, from a Radio Link Control (RLC) receiving buffer to a PDCP receiving entity when a handover command message from a source cell to a target cell is received; buffering the first PDCP PDUs in a PDCP PDU reordering buffer by the PDCP receiving entity in response to the special indication; and when a second PDCP PDU is received from the target cell through a new RLC receiving entity for the target cell, outputting third PDCP PDUs up to a PDCP PDU before a first missing PDCP PDU having a sequence number higher than that of the second PDCP PDU from the PDCP reordering buffer. In the method, a PDCP entity performs reordering, thereby improving efficiency of communication.

The method includes the steps of: if call setup for a packet call service is requested, determining by the UE if the requested service is a predetermined service sensitive to call setup delay; if the requested packet call service is the predetermined service sensitive to the call setup delay, establishing control information representing that the packet call service is sensitive to the call setup delay; and transmitting a request message requesting the call setup to a network, the request message including the control information. In the method, a network causes a UE using a packet call service sensitive to call setup delay to maintain a connected state, so that restart delay of the packet call service can be minimized.

A user equipment transmits an uplink signal for requesting communications on the shared channel to a Node B, and waits for a delay duration without monitoring a downlink after transmitting the uplink signal. When the delay duration has elapsed, the user equipment monitors the downlink during a valid period and determines whether a downlink signal responding to the uplink signal is received in a transmission time interval within the valid period. When the downlink signal is received in the valid period, the user equipment transmits and receives data on the shared channel.

In a mobile communication system including an RNC for providing an MBMS service and a plurality of Node Bs connected to the RNC, for providing the MBMS service to UEs within a plurality of cells. The RNC is configured to have a plurality of lower-layer entities corresponding to the cells. An RLC and PDCP entity that area common to the cells, receive MBMS data from an upper layer and transmit, upon receiving a request from one of the lower-layer entities, the MBMS data to the lower-layer entity. Therefore, the RNC can provide the MBMS service more efficiently, and unnecessary consumption of system resources is reduced.

A method and apparatus for performing Automatic Retransmission reQuest (ARQ) on packet data in a mobile communication system. The method includes receiving from a transmission entity performing ARQ, by a reception entity, a status report message including a Non-Acknowledged (NACK) signal for the packet data transmitted to the reception entity, and generating time information of the NACK signal; comparing, by the transmission entity, the generation time information with transmission complete time information for the packet data; and determining whether to retransmit the packet data depending on the comparison result, and performing retransmission of the packet data according to the determination step.
