The voltage drop in the first organic EL element is larger than that in the second organic EL element. A scanning line is provided in every row of the display unit, a signal line is provided in every column of the display unit, and a column control circuit outputs a display signal for every column. The positions of the pixel circuits are displaced in the row direction with respect to the arrangement of the display elements, and are thus aligned in the column direction and also connected to the signal line only on one side of the signal line. No inversion of the pixel circuit pattern occurs and variations of the circuit characteristics in every row are suppressed.

The control circuit performs at least twice, while performing a first programming scanning and a second programming scanning respectively once, a light emitting scanning in which the plurality of lighting lines are sequentially selected and currents corresponding to the signals set to the drive circuits are supplied from the drive circuit connected to the selected lighting lines to the light emitting devices. In addition, the control circuit varies the length of a period for which the currents are supplied from the drive circuits connected to the selected lighting lines to the light emitting devices every time the light emitting scanning is performed at least twice.

The column control circuit group is controlled by the first control signal and a second control signal delayed from the first control signal, and the first control signal is generated by the control-signal generating circuit, then input into the column control circuit group, and then propagated through the column control circuit group. The second control signal is generated on the basis of the first control signal which has been propagated through the column control circuit group.

The common interconnecting line disposed along a side of the area most distant from the wiring lead-out portion has a narrower width than a width of the common interconnecting line disposed along a side of the area closer to the wiring lead-out portion.
