摘要:
In a technique for setting up calls in IP mobile networks, when an application level in a mobile station sends a setup message to set up a multimedia call, before sending such a message over the radio interface, the mobile station performs the appropriate procedures to setup the appropriate bearers over the radio interface and in the network to satisfy the call requirements specified by the application level in the setup message. The technique applies to both mobile originated calls and mobile terminated calls, the called mobile station performing the transport level procedures after having received a setup message and before sending a confirmation/call acceptance message back to the calling party. Furthermore, the allocation of radio resources for PDP contexts that will be used to carry the media of a multimedia IP called is delayed so that no radio resources are allocated to the PDP contexts activated before the call control signaling is exchanged. The radio resources are allocated only when the call signaling has been completed and the called party has accepted the call and indicated the call characteristics that it can support. An indication is forwarded from the SGSN to the GGSN advising that no packets are to be sent on the PDP context because there are no radio resources for the PDP context.

Methods and systems for carrying call control information after a call handover from an Internet Protocol (IP) packet switched network to a circuit switched cellular network and vice versa. The IP packet switched network includes a processing server capable of processing IP-based protocol messages. The circuit switched cellular network includes a mobile switching center. A gateway is operatively connected as a bridge between the IP packet switched network and the circuit switched cellular network. The gateway is capable of encapsulating an IP-based protocol message into a payload of a second message, and extracting an IP-based protocol message from a payload of another message. One or more user devices are capable of transmitting and receiving to/from the IP packet switched network and the circuit switched cellular network. The user devices are capable of encapsulating an IP-based protocol message into a payload of a second message, and extracting an IP-based protocol message from a payload of another message. The IP-based protocol message contains call control information that is encapsulated, transparently transferred through the switched cellular network, and extracted. The call control information is transferred between the IP packet switched network and the user device. The circuit switched cellular network may be part of a circuit switched cellular system that also includes an overlayed packet switched network. The call control information may be carried in packets between the IP packet switched network and the user device transparently through the overlayed packet switched network.

A system and method for including aggregation control information in an aggregate frame that facilitates enhanced power efficiency is provided. Aggregation control information may include lengths of frames addressed to different stations and/or transmission opportunities to different stations. A receiving station is then able to calculate an offset within the aggregate frame that identifies the position of frames addressed to the receiving station and/or offset when it can use the medium to transmit it's data. The receiving station may then enter a sleep mode and awaken at a proper time for using the medium to either receive, or transmit data on the medium. Additionally, aggregation control information may include rate information to facilitate aggregation of multi-rate data in an aggregate frame.

A system and method for producing a variable length aggregate acknowledgment frame in a shared resource network is provided. A plurality of frames is received, and receipt status information regarding the plurality of frames is generated. An aggregate acknowledgment frame comprising an acknowledgment information field containing the receipt status information is produced. A length of the receipt status information is dependent on a number of the plurality of frames.

According to one general aspect, a method of using a base station (BS) comprising receiving, by the BS of a first wireless network, a notification that a mobile station (MS) is entering a semi-idle state with respect to the first network, wherein the semi-idle mode is also associated with the MS performing a handover from a first wireless network based upon a first networking standard to a second wireless network based upon a second networking standard. Further comprising storing a portion of a set of context information associated with the MS. Also comprising allocating uplink resources for the MS only to receive location update messages from the MS. And, maintaining at least some of the context information of the MS.

A system and method for producing variable length acknowledgments and requesting variable length acknowledgement signals in a shared resource network is provided. A plurality of data streams and frames are received, and receipt status information of the plurality of frames is generated. An acknowledgment frame comprising the receipt status information is produced. A length of the receipt status information is dependent on a number of the plurality of frames.

Apparatus, and an associated method, for a mobile communication system in which handovers of communications are effectuated between access points of the communication system as a mobile node travels there through. A manner is provided by which to perform handover evaluation functions more efficiently by performing at least some of the handover evaluations at the access point to which a mobile node is attached. And, a manner is provided by which to provide care-of-addresses formed of temporary identifiers to temporarily identify a mobile node to permit the routing of packet data thereto during a communication session.

A method for saving power, at a mobile terminal, includes receiving a call, at a network entity, wherein the call contains information relating to transmission of the call from the network entity to the mobile terminal. The mobile terminal operates in first and second communications networks, which are different. The mobile terminal detects coverage of the first communications network and activates a first interface corresponding to the first communications network. The mobile terminal can also deactivate the first interface and activate a second interface corresponding to the second communications network while the mobile terminal is located in both the first and second communications networks. The mobile terminal can then enter a low power consumption mode supported by the second communications network. The mobile terminal can also deactivate the low power consumption mode and activate the first interface to communicate with the first communications network when a call is delivered via the first communications network.
