This invention provides an improved address management scheme in a mobile router (MR) that connects a mobile network into the Internet via an access network. The MR performs neighbor advertisement on behalf of mobile network nodes (MNNs) within the mobile network so that packets directed towards the MNNs are routed correctly to the MR, and then to the corresponding MNN, while maintaining standard address management procedures, such as IPv6 address management procedures, in the access network and in the mobile network.

According to one embodiment, the method includes the steps of receiving a packet data flow and verifying whether the packet data flow belongs to one of the existing packet data delivery categories. The method also includes the steps of assigning a first delivery path indicator for the packet data delivery category, retrieving load conditions prevailing in the network, and checking whether one of the existing packet data delivery categories conforms to prescribed resource policy rules for one of the existing packet data delivery category. When the step of checking generates a negative result, the method involves the step of assigning an alternative delivery path indicator for the packet data delivery category. The invention also provides a method of categorizing packet data flows as belonging to a certain packet data delivery category.

The invention relates to a service control device and method for controlling service execution in a communication network. A service script for a user is loaded in response to the receipt of an incoming message, and it is checked based on a comparison of the loaded service script and the incoming message whether a service is to be triggered. If a service triggering has been determined, a service is activated in an external service execution environment. Due to the fact that the service execution is not performed in the service control point but in an external service execution environment, the service logic does not have to be provided at the service control point. It provides a flexible way to define, execute, and control user-specific, operator, and third party services combining various service capabilities.

In a technique for setting up calls in IP mobile networks, when an application level in a mobile station sends a setup message to set up a multimedia call, before sending such a message over the radio interface, the mobile station performs the appropriate procedures to setup the appropriate bearers over the radio interface and in the network to satisfy the call requirements specified by the application level in the setup message. The technique applies to both mobile originated calls and mobile terminated calls, the called mobile station performing the transport level procedures after having received a setup message and before sending a confirmation/call acceptance message back to the calling party. Furthermore, the allocation of radio resources for PDP contexts that will be used to carry the media of a multimedia IP called is delayed so that no radio resources are allocated to the PDP contexts activated before the call control signaling is exchanged. The radio resources are allocated only when the call signaling has been completed and the called party has accepted the call and indicated the call characteristics that it can support. An indication is forwarded from the SGSN to the GGSN advising that no packets are to be sent on the PDP context because there are no radio resources for the PDP context.
