A continuous process for producing hexafluoroisopropanol is provided which comprises contacting hexafluoroacetone with hexafluoroisopropanol and hydrogen to produce a liquid feed stream; introducing the liquid feed stream to a reactor containing an immobilized hydrogenation catalyst to convert the hexafluoroacetone to hexafluoroisopropanol and provide a product stream; and recovering at least a portion of the hexafluoroisopropanol from the product stream. Preferably a portion of the product stream is recycled. The reactor can be a packed bed or stirred tank reactor.

Instead of a single catalyst withdrawal outlet for regenerated catalyst, multiple catalyst withdrawal points are provided. Use of multiple catalyst outlets, or a continuous radial catalyst outlet, greatly reduces stagnant regions in the bed.

Multiple, symmetrically spaced spent catalyst inlets are provided for addition of coked catalyst to the regenerator. Preferable a single catalyst outlet, for withdrawal of regenerated catalyst, is provided in the center of the regenerator. Use of multiple symmetrical inlets and a central catalyst outlet greatly reduce stagnant regions in the bed.
