Abstract: A process is disclosed for making CF3CF═CHF. The process involves reacting CF3CClFCCl2F with H2 in a reaction zone in the presence of a catalyst to produce a product mixture comprising CF3CF═CHF. The catalyst has a catalytically effective amount of palladium supported on a support selected from the group consisting of alumina, fluorided alumina, aluminum fluoride and mixtures thereof and the mole ratio of H2 to CF3CClFCCl2F fed to the reaction zone is between about 1:1 and about 5:1. Also disclosed are azeotropic compositions of CF3CClFCCl2F and HF and azeotropic composition of CF3CHFCH2F and HF.

Heavy impurities, such as oligomers and other high boiling impurities, that are present may be purged during the process to prevent yield loss and reduction of catalyst efficacy.

Abstract: A process for the production of trifluoroethylene in a reactor provided with a catalytic bed including a catalyst, the process including: i) a step of activating the catalyst, including bringing it into contact with a gaseous stream including a reducing agent, an inert gas or a mixture thereof; and ii) a step of reacting chlorotrifluoroethylene with hydrogen in the presence of the catalyst activated in step i) and in the gas phase in order to produce a stream including trifluoroethylene; wherein during said step i), the temperature of the catalytic bed is increased from a temperature T1 to a temperature T2 that is greater than T1, with a temperature gradient of less than 0.5° C./min.

Abstract: A method for producing a hydrofluoroolefin is provided. The formation of by-products of an over-reduced product having hydrogen added to a material chlorofluoroolefin and an over-reduced product having not only chlorine atoms but also fluorine atoms in the chlorofluoroolefin replaced with hydrogen atoms is suppressed in the method. The method includes reacting a specific chlorofluoroolefin with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst supported on a carrier to obtain the hydrofluoroolefin. The catalyst is a catalyst composed of an alloy containing at least one platinum group element of palladium and platinum, and at least one second element of copper, gold, lithium, potassium, silver, zinc, tin, lead, and bismuth.

The process is an “early-stage fluorination” process, wherein precursors containing fluorine are assembled into the desired product using a zerovalent nickel catalyst. Also provided is a liquid composition comprising one or more fluoroölefin produced by this catalytic process.
