The motion vector search method includes the steps of: individually calculating error energies of a center point and vertices of a search pattern in a search window used in a previous frame with respect to a center of the search window established in the current frame, thereby designating a motion vector candidate point; either determining the motion vector candidate point as a moving point of a motion vector, or calculating error energies of a pair of neighboring points and re-establishing a motion vector candidate point; and either determining the re-established motion vector candidate point as a moving point of a motion vector, or re-establishing a search pattern, re-checking the error energies of the center point, the vertices and the neighboring points, and determining a moving point of a motion vector.

    摘要: A motion search method and apparatus for minimizing an off-chip memory access to reduce cycles for predicting a motion vector. A sum of absolute differences (SAD) calculation processing is performed, while an off-chip memory is accessed using Direct Memory Access (DMA). A position of a current macro block is determined if a frame is input and the length of a horizontal search line is set according to adjacent motion vectors and predetermined external parameters. The SADs are calculated by calculating medians of the adjacent motion vectors as a predictive motion vector, setting a vertical direction value of the predictive motion vector as an initial search line, and sequentially searching at least one horizontal search line, and determining a position of a minimum SAD from the at least one horizontal search line. The minimum SAD position is selected as a final motion vector.

    摘要: Disclosed is an image encoding apparatus and a memory access method. The image encoding apparatus for encoding image data includes: a memory for storing a frame of the image data; a motion prediction unit for detecting a motion vector of a predetermined block unit for a currently-input image frame based on the stored frame, and accessing the memory in order to perform sub-pixel interpolation for a corresponding block of the motion vector; and a motion compensation unit for performing motion compensation with respect to a frame block to be compressed, by using the detected motion vector, thereby reducing the number of times the memory is accessed for encoding. Since the number of memory access times is reduced, which is very frequently used in interpolation of a color difference signal, low-power encoding is achieved.

    摘要: Disclosed is a video encoder and a method for coding a video data frame. The encoder of a video encoder checks overall capacity of video data frames to be encoded, and predicts the number of the P frames which are to be subsequently encoded according to the checked overall capacity by using mean capacity of P frames extracted from a previous GOP. The number of frames that will be skipped due to an overflow of a buffer is computed from the predicted number of the P frames according to available capacity of the buffer. The position of those frames that will be skipped is set not to be continuous according to the predicted number of the P frames and to the number of frames of the GOP. Furthermore, while coding of the video data frames is being performed, a video data frame chosen to be currently encoded is arranged in the same position as a frame to be skipped is arranged, coding of the video data frame is skipped. Herein, the skipped frames are determined, from among the video data frames, from 1 frames which become reference frames of other video data frames, or from P frames, except a first P frame, which becomes a reference frame of another video data frame. Accordingly, while essential reference frames (i.e., I and P frames) are being prevented from being skipped, consecutive frame skips are also prevented from occurring, and therefore the overall quality of pictures can be prevented from being degraded.
