Abstract: Method of preparing a lubricating oil composition of detergent properties containing a calcium salt of alkylphenol comprising introducing into a mixture of an alkoxyalkanol and a member selected from the group consisting of calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide, an oxygen containing gas to form an activated mixture and contacting said activated mixture with an alkylphenol and hydrocarbon oil of lubricating viscosity to form said composition.
