    Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide an electrode substrate that maintains electrical conductivity and achieves both a high drainage performance and any one of a high gas diffusivity and spring property. To achieve the above-described object, an electrode substrate according to the present invention is an electrode substrate including a carbon fiber sheet having pores filled with a fluoropolymer and carbon fine powder, wherein, in terms of a fluorine/carbon ratio (F/C), the ratio of the smallest value (F/Cmin) to the largest value (F/Cmax) of the average value (F/C-1) in one surface of the electrode substrate, the average value (F/C-2) in the central plane in the thickness direction, and the average value (F/C-3) in the other surface is 0.80 or more, and wherein, in a pore size distribution, the electrode substrate has at least a first peak present in the range of pore size of 0.5 μm or more and less than 120 μm and a second peak present in the range of pore size of 10 nm or more and less than 0.5 μm, and the ratio (V1/V2) of the peak volume (V1) of the first peak to the peak volume (V2) of the second peak is 1.0 to 7.0.

    Abstract: The objective of the present invention is to provide a method which is for producing a gas diffusion electrode substrate having a high conductivity and a chemical resistance, and by which an increase in production cost can be suppressed. The present invention is a method for producing a gas diffusion electrode substrate in which a microporous layer is formed in a conductive porous body formed by bonding carbon fibers to each other by means of a cured product of a binder resin, the method having, in the following order: a binder resin impregnation step in which a carbon fiber structure is impregnated with a binder resin composition to obtain a pre-impregnated body; a coating step in which the surface of the pre-impregnated body is coated with a microporous layer coating solution; and a heat treatment step in which the pre-impregnated body that has been subjected to the coating step is heat-treated at a temperature of at least 200° C., wherein the binder resin composition is a liquid composition including a binder resin and a carbon powder, the binder resin being a thermosetting resin, and the method does not have a step for heat-treating the pre-impregnated body at a temperature of at least 200° C., between the binder resin impregnation step and the heat treatment step.

    Abstract: The purpose of the present invention is to provide an electrode which is used as a liquid flow-through device electrode and in which liquid flow-through resistance is reduced and the utilization efficiency of carbon fiber is enhanced. Another object of the present invention is to provide a redox flow battery having excellent charge-discharge performance by use of the electrode which is used for the liquid flow-through device. The present invention provides an electrode for a liquid flow-through device, the electrode essentially consisting of a carbon fiber nonwoven fabric, having a thickness of more than 0.40 mm, and having a through-hole disposed therein, or a non-through-hole disposed on one surface or both surfaces of the electrode.
