Abstract:
A software implemented code is operational in a system for permitting a user to access broadcast media in data communication with a broadcast receiving device. The code comprises encoded information that is sufficient to uniquely identify the media being broadcast and comprises information regarding the permitted uses of the broadcast media. The code is configured to be broadcast with the media and to travel with the broadcast media, or alternatively is configured to be distributed to the user independent of the media. The code is also capable of being selectively stored into a storage medium associated with said broadcast receiving device, and is configured to selectively permit access by the user to the broadcast media. Alternatively, the code is capable of being transmitted to a station in response to an input from the user selecting said media, and is configured to instruct the station to selectively permit access by the user to the media depending upon the user input.
Abstract:

Abstract:
In a system for providing access to media selections stored on a remote storage medium, a resolving station is electronically linked to a remote station from which a user transmits a request for access to a selected data composition, the request comprising user identification information and a code corresponding to the selected data composition. The resolving station stores, regarding each of a plurality of data compositions, information regarding access authorized and accounting information; accepts from a user a request for access to a selected composition; verifies, based on identification information provided by the user, the code and the access information corresponding to the selected composition, whether or not the user is authorized for the requested access; implements, based on the accounting information and the code corresponding to the selected data composition, a predetermined accounting process for access by the user to the selected data composition, if the user is authorized for the requested access; and transmits information regarding authorization of said user and the result, if any, of said accounting process for said selected composition.
Abstract:
A system for purchasing a personal recording media includes a first station for converting at least one data composition and a data information corresponding thereto to predetermined signals and for transmitting the signals, and a receiving device for receiving the signals and for enabling a user to sense the data composition transmitted The data information corresponding to the data composition being transmitted is selectively stored, by a predetermined operation by a user, either into a storage device of a card-type storage medium when the card-type storage medium is attached to the receiving device or into a storage device in a second station including the receiving device. A desired musical composition can be recorded into a recording medium, either at the second station or at a third station, based upon the data information stored in the card-type storage medium or in the storage device of the second station, and accounting and royalty processes are implemented.
Abstract:
In a system for providing access to media selections stored on a remote storage medium, a resolving station is electronically linked to a remote station from which a user transmits a request for access to a selected data composition, the request comprising user identification information and a code corresponding to the selected data composition. The resolving station has storage means for storing, regarding each of a plurality of data compositions, information regarding access authorized for each data composition and accounting information for each data composition; receiving means for accepting from a user a request for access to a selected data composition; means for verifying, based on identification information provided by the user, the code and the access information corresponding to the selected data composition, whether or not the user is authorized for the requested access to the selected data composition; means for implementing, based on the accounting information regarding the selected data composition and the code corresponding to the selected data composition, a predetermined accounting process for access by the user to the selected data composition, if the user is authorized for the requested access to selected data composition; and transmission means for transmitting information regarding authorization of said user to access said selected data composition and the result, if any, of said accounting process for said selected data composition.
