The broadcaster markets television air-time to direct-mail advertisers and adds a value-added direct mail incentive at no cost to transition them into new-media advertising. The direct mail component comprises a monthly circular with cross-media tactics, such as contests, promotions, coupons, and other incentives, which are cross-referenced between the dual media advertisements. The cross-referencing of the direct mail circular in television advertising, and vice versa, makes the dual-media advertising truly integrated in its approach.

    摘要: A system for creation of user-selected customized audio products, defined as a plurality of songs from different recording artists recorded on a single compact disc (CD) or digital audio tape (DAT) cassette, at record store/distributor locations utilizing a digitized, central database with production hardware at distributor sites. Customized products consist of CD ROM or digital audio tapes (DAT) with music or voice content selected from large digital database, and are written at local workstations at distribution centers (such as record stores) which are connected by a high-speed communications network. The system records costs of the digitized audio (e.g., royalties for individual songs) for billing purposes, as well as producing descriptive material (contents, background information, and graphics for labels, etc.). Data transfer and production is faster than real-time, and thus will be a significant improvement and will tend to reduce current analog hardware-to-hardware transfer ("pirating") which violate copyright laws and is unauthorized. The system consists of integrated, state-of-the-art digital databases, communications networks, computer workstations, and unique workstation processing software, and provides an innovative product/service (individual customized albums or audio data compilations) which currently do not exist.

    摘要: Music is blanket transmitted to each customer's computer-based user station. Customers preselect from a list of available music in advance using an interactive screen selector, and pay only for music that they choose to have recorded for unlimited playback. An antipiracy “ID tag” is woven into the recorded music so that any illegal copies therefrom may be traced to the purchase transaction. Music is transmitted on a fixed schedule or through an active scheduling process that monitors music requests from all or a subset of satellite receivers and adjust scheduling according to demand for various CD's. In those instances where transmission interruptions result in data loss, the system downloads the next transmission of the requested CD and uses both transmissions to produce a “good copy”. In conjunction to the blanket transmission, an automated CD manufacturing facility may be provided to manufacture CD's and distribute them by ground transportation.
