摘要: An illumination apparatus includes a plate-like separation optical element having a dichroic surface and a PBS surface. The dichroic surface reflects green component light and transmits yellow component light. The PBS surface transmits P polarization component light and reflects S polarization component light. The separation optical element combines red component light entering from a certain direction and transmitted through the dichroic surface, with yellow component light entering from a different direction and reflected by the PBS surface, and leads a combined light towards a red liquid crystal panel. The separation optical element combines green component light entering from the certain direction and reflected by the dichroic surface, with yellow component light entering from the different direction and transmitted through the PBS surface, and leads a combined light towards a green liquid crystal panel.

摘要: An illumination apparatus includes: a polarization conversion element configured to align polarization directions of light emitted from a light source in one polarization direction; a color separation unit configured to separate the light whose polarization directions are aligned in the one polarization direction by the polarization conversion element; and a polarization adjustment element configured to adjust a polarization state of light in a predetermined wavelength band within a wavelength range of the light emitted from the light source. The polarization adjustment element is provided between the polarization conversion element and the color separation unit on an optical path of the light emitted from the light source.

摘要: The projection type video display includes three illuminating devices (51R-1, 51G, and 51B). Each illuminating device includes a taper type rod integrator and a cuboid shaped rod integrator. The illuminating device (51R-1) emits red light; the illuminating device (51G) emits green light; and the illuminating device (51B) emits blue light. The illuminating device (51R-1) has a Fresnel lens. The illuminating devices (51G and 51B) do not have a Fresnel lens.

摘要: An optical element includes a dichroic surface formed by a multilayer dielectric film or the like and a polarized beam splitter surface formed by a multilayer dielectric film or the like. The dichroic surface transmits light (G and R) from a green wavelength band to a red wavelength band irrespective of the polarization directions of light, and reflects light (B) in a blue wavelength band. The polarized beam splitter surface reflects an S-polarized light (Gs) in a green wavelength band. Furthermore, the polarized beam splitter surface transmits an S-polarized light (Bs) and a P-polarized light (Bp) in the blue wavelength band, and also transmits the S-polarized light (Rs) and P-polarized light (Rp) in the red wavelength band.

摘要: An illumination apparatus includes a red light valve, a green light valve, a blue light valve, a polarization adjustment element, and a color combiner. The polarization adjustment element adjusts polarization of fourth color component light. The color combiner combines light emitted from the red light valve, the green light valve and the blue light valve. Superimposed component light which is any one of a red component light, a green component light and a blue component light enters the polarization adjustment element together with a fourth color component light. The polarization adjustment element transmits the superimposed component light without adjusting the polarization, and transmits the fourth color component light with adjusting the polarization. The superimposed component light and the fourth color component light emitted from the polarization adjustment element enter a specific light valve corresponding to the superimposed component light, among the red light valve, the green light valve and the blue light valve.

摘要: An illuminating device comprises a first light source in which LED chips are arranged in an array shape and a second light source in which LED chips are arranged in an array shape. The two light sources of each illuminating device are arranged such that the main light-emission optical axes of the light sources are perpendicular to each other. Moreover, a time-division switching mirror is provided at a crossing position between the main light-emission optical axes. The first light source and the second light source alternately emit pulses of light. The pulsed emission is a method of supplying a large amount of electric currents to the LED chips in a short time period, and a light-emitting amount increases compared to a steady-state emission of the LED chips. The time-division switching mirror becomes a transmitting state when the first light source is lighted, and becomes a reflecting state when the second light source is lighted.

The angle control lens includes a transparent member in a shape of a rotational symmetry, and includes a center convex curved surface area (light-emission area) A1, a peripheral curved surface area (light-emission area) B1, a peripheral curved surface reflection area C1, a center concave curved surface area (light-incidence area) D, and a convex curved surface area E formed between the areas A1, B1. The convex curved surface area E is formed in a position for receiving direct incoming light from the LED (direct incoming light deviated from the center portion), and is optically constructed to anteriorly emit this received light (in a direction intended to be emitted as a result of a light-emission angle being controlled).

摘要: A projection type video display apparatus is provided with an LED array for emitting light in red, an LED array for emitting light in green, and an LED array for emitting light in blue. On a light-incident side of a rod integrator, time-dividing mirrors 2A, 2B arranged in a cross manner, for guiding the light from each LED array to an inside of the rod integrator, are arranged. Furthermore, on a light-emission side of the LED array for emitting the light in red, a time-diving mirror is arranged, and on a light-emission side of the LED array for emitting the light in blue, a time-dividing mirror is provided. Each time-dividing mirror switch either to reflect the light or to transmit the light, depending on whether or not voltage is applied thereto. At time-dividing lighting timing of the LED arrays, the time-dividing mirrors switch either to reflect the light or to transmit the light. In addition, video signals of videos of respective colors are supplied to a liquid crystal display panel in a time-dividing manner.
