The backlight device includes, as a light source, a plural number of principal light emitting diode units 21mn, and a plural number of subsidiary light emitting diode units 21mn, where m and n are natural numbers. Each principal light emitting diode unit is made up by a plural number of light emitting diodes (21) arrayed in a string and emits white light of preset chromaticity. Each subsidiary light emitting diode unit is made up by a plural number of light emitting diodes (21) arrayed in a string and emits white light of chromaticity in the vicinity of the preset chromaticity. The number of the subsidiary light emitting diode units is smaller than that of the principal light emitting diode units. When the principal light emitting diode units and the subsidiary light emitting diode units are arrayed in a two-dimensional matrix, the subsidiary light emitting diode units 21mn are arrayed without being juxtaposed on the same row, and the subsidiary light emitting diode units 21mn, arrayed in a center column of the two-dimensional matrix, are arrayed towards the center of a color liquid crystal display panel (110).

    摘要: A backlight device is provided that realizes high luminance while widening the color range. The backlight device illuminates a transmissive color liquid crystal display panel with white light from a back side of the transmissive color liquid crystal display panel having a color filter made of a three-primary-color filter which selectively transmits light having wavelengths of red light, green light, and blue light. The backlight device includes a plurality of cold cathode fluorescent lamp tubes having tube walls coated with a wide-color-range fluorescent material. The backlight device also includes a diffusion plate which diffuses white light emitted from the cold cathode fluorescent lamp tubes, illuminates the color liquid crystal display panel with the diffused white light, and is positioned at a predetermined distance from the cold cathode fluorescent lamp tubes. A predetermined pattern is printed on the diffusion plate, by dot printing, corresponding to positions at which the cold cathode fluorescent lamp tubes are provided, and the diffusion plate is positioned several mm apart from the cold cathode fluorescent lamp tubes.

    摘要: A stereoscopic display device includes: a display panel having a display screen on which two-dimensional image is displayed, and configured to polarize image light of the image-displaying into a particular polarization direction; and a lens array element disposed to oppose the display screen of the display panel, and having a liquid crystal layer which includes liquid crystal molecules having a refractive index anisotropy and aligned in a predetermined orientation direction under no application of voltage. The lens array element is configured to electrically change the alignment of the liquid crystal molecules to generate a lens effect, and configured to selectively change a state of passing therethrough of the image light exiting from the display panel. The predetermined orientation direction of the liquid crystal molecules of the lens array element and the polarization direction of the image light are parallel to each other.
