Abstract:
A hybrid combined cycle power plant including a solar central receiver for receiving solar radiation and converting it to thermal energy. The power plant includes a molten salt heat transfer medium for transferring the thermal energy to an air heater. The air heater uses the thermal energy to preheat the air from the compressor of the gas cycle. The exhaust gases from the gas cycle are directed to a steam turbine for additional energy production.
Abstract:
The high resistance of diffused electrical interconnection lines used for ground return paths in MOS field effect transistor (MOSFET) arrays limits their size and performance. Advantage is taken of the extra interconnection level available from conventional double-layer-polycrystalline silicon (polysilicon) processes to distribute ground potential to arrays, by means of a polycrystalline grid with direct contact to diffused electrodes therein, thus greatly reducing the deleterious effects of ground resistance. The proposed ground grid is integrated into the structure of a MOSFET ROM using a typical double polysilicon process. The first polysilicon level provides the conductive medium for said ground grid and the diffusing doping impurities that form contiguous source electrodes for the array MOSFETs. Gate electrodes thereof and word lines are formed out of the second polysilicon level. Drain electrodes are diffused and contacted by metallized output lines.
Abstract:
A paint trimming device is provided for applying paint to a first surface closely adjacent to an adjoining surface. The device comprises a base having opposing faces and a body portion extending between the faces, a a handle projecting outwardly from one face and having extension capability (such as being connectable to an extension pole), a paint pad having a peripheral edge and being secured to the base upon the other face, and a spacer which extends outwardly from the body portion and has its outermost points defining a closed linear boundary whose perpendicular projection, in a plane in which the paint pad lies, completely surrounds and is spaced from the peripheral edge of the paint pad.
Abstract:
A tire with reduced tread noise includes a tread having a plurality of base pitches arranged about the circumference of the tire in at least one pitch sequence. Each base pitch in the pitch sequence has a tread geometry defined by a plurality of load-supporting tread blocks separated or interrupted by grooves and/or sipes. The base pitches in the pitch sequence have different tread geometries to reduce the noise of the tire on the road surface. The grooves and/or sipes in each base pitch have common end points along the leading and trailing edges of the base pitches such that the grooves and/or sipes are continuous across the boundary between adjacent base pitches in the pitch sequence. Likewise, the grooves and/or sipes in each base pitch in one rib or row in the tire can have common end points along the edge between a base pitch in an adjacent rib or row, such that the grooves and/or sipes are continuous in the lateral direction as well. The base pitches formed in this manner can be arranged in a particular pitch sequence regardless of: (i) the individual tread geometry of each base pitch, or (ii) the particular sequence of base pitches. Moreover, the length of the base pitches in the circumferential direction can also be varied by known manners (e.g., random, sinusoidal) to further reduce the noise of the tire on a road surface.
Abstract:
A tire tread has a plurality of base pitches arranged in at least two circumferential sections around the tire. The base pitches have at least two different pitch lengths and include a plurality of load-supporting tread blocks. The different pitch lengths of the base pitches form a pitch sequence in each circumferential section of the tire. The pitch sequences in the sections are arranged such that the noise produced by the base pitches in the tire tread is a low level, distributed noise to reduce the noise produced by the tire when the tire is in use.
