摘要: A system for facilitating a transaction between a first party and a second party is controlled by a trusted third party system and is programmed to carry out the method by receiving the first party's instructions for fulfilling at least a part of the first party's obligations in said transaction. The system communicates with the second party and provides the second party with perceptible assurance that the second party is in communication with a trusted third party system through the system. The system transmits information to the second party to provide assurance that the first party's instructions have been or will be fulfilled. Thus trust in the third party is transferred to the first party and the second party can trust that the first party's obligations have been or will be fulfilled.

摘要: A system and method including cameras for monitoring objects such as documents, at multiple locations, and for recording the objects' movement through space and time. The objects are marked with unique identifiers, and the invention is adaptable for recording and recognizing the objects' development using character recognition. A center receives the information from the cameras, and that information is searchable. Advantageously, the unique identifiers are printed with ink that is invisible unless it fluoresces or phosphoresces, the digital cameras include an ultraviolet flash to cause the identifiers to fluoresce or phosphoresce at a certain wavelength, and the cameras are equipped with filters to filter out wavelengths other than the certain wavelength. Packages or pads of pre-marked blank paper are adaptable for use with the present invention.

摘要: A number of methods of processing checks are provided that enable the various parties involved in processing/clearing the checks to be able to audit the movement of the check, and specifically an image of the check, through the check processing/clearing system. In particular, cryptographic techniques are employed allow the various parties involved in processing/clearing the checks to be able to identify what person and/or process performed an operation on the check, such as scanning the check to create the check image or performing optical character recognition on the check image to obtain data therefrom such as the amount of the

摘要: A method and system are provided for uniquely assigning identifications for a plurality of mail pieces, before physically sorting the mail pieces that will subsequently be mailed. Each of these identifications includes a sequential part, and each of the mail pieces includes postal destination information indicative of a destination area sort level. Preferably, not only that destination area sort level is included, but also at least one wider destination area sort level. The present invention entails determining whether a current mail piece has postal destination information indicative of the same destination area as a previously processed mail piece. If the destination area is the same, then the sequential part is assigned to the current mail piece, such that the sequential part is monotonically different from the sequential part of the previous mail pieces having the same destination area.

摘要: Predetermined print control signals are provided to a digital printing mechanism that responds to the print control signals to print an image on a substrate. A reference signal is derived from said print control signals. The image is scanned to generate a post-print signal. The reference signal is compared with said post-print signal. If the reference signal and the post-print signal do not compare within predetermined standards, an output signal indicative of poor print quality is generated. The print mechanism can be incorporated into a postage metering system and the image can be a postal indicia. The postage meter is responsive to a signal generated as a function of the output signal to inhibit further printing of postal indicia. Prior to printing the image, a substrate upon which the image is to be printed is scanned to generate a reflectance signal, the reflectance signal being used to correct the post-print signal. The post-print signal can represent integration of reflectance over segments of the image, or can represent summation of scanned pixels over segments of the image.
