Abstract:
A hybrid drive and associated methods provide low-overhead storage of a hibernation file in the hybrid hard disk drive. During operation, the hybrid drive allocates a portion of solid-state memory in the drive that is large enough to accommodate a hibernation file associated with a host device of the hybrid drive. In addition to the erased memory blocks that are normally present during operation of the hybrid drive, the portion of solid-state memory allocated for accommodating the hibernation file may include over-provisioned memory blocks, blocks used to store a previous hibernation file that has been trimmed, and/or non-dirty blocks.
Abstract:
The misplacement of a servo burst during a servowriting or self-servowriting process can be corrected by erasing and re-writing that burst. In addition, WORF information of a track can be saved in memory for future servowriting and/or can be utilized to compare with a pre-determined threshold to identify servo bursts to be repaired. Alternatively, a batch writing approach can be used to minimize the time needed to re-write misplaced bursts. This description is not intended to be a complete description of, or limit the scope of, the invention. Other features, aspects, and objects of the invention can be obtained from a review of the specification, the figures, and the claims.
Abstract:
Wedge Offset Reduction Field (WORF) data can be used to reduce the effective written-in runout of a servo pattern. In order to prevent the WORF data from being applied to an improper portion of the servo pattern, the identification of a quadrant associated with that WORF data can be stored with the WORF data. For example, the servo pattern of a hard disk can contain a number of servo burst boundaries. In order to ensure that the WORF data is applied to the proper burst boundary, the identity of a quadrant associated with that boundary can be written into the servo wedge along with the WORF data. This description is not intended to be a complete description of, or limit the scope of, the invention. Other features, aspects, and objects of the invention can be obtained from a review of the specification, the figures, and the claims.

Abstract:
Systems and methods in accordance with embodiments can be used to re-write data to a rotatable storage medium. When a position of a write element is not within a threshold during a data write operation, an indication of data written while the position of the element was not within the threshold can be maintained. When the device including the rotatable storage medium is free from other data transfer operations, the data written while the element was not within the threshold can be re-written. In this manner, data that may be considered less reliable due to the misplacement of a write element during a data write operation can be re-written such that the data can be placed closer to a data track centerline.
Abstract:
A spinal-column distractor (10) comprises a first pusher plate (1) intended to bear on a vertebra, a second pusher plate (2) intended to bear on an adjacent vertebra, and a slide (3). The slide (3) is connected to the first pusher plate (1) via a scissor linkage (4), and shiftable by a threaded spindle to change a spacing between the first pusher plate (1) and the second pusher plate (2), while the second pusher plate (2) forms a track for the slide (3).
Abstract:
It is claimed that statements regarding cylinder pressure are obtained for optimization of the combustion process in internal combustion engines. The internal combustion engine is modeled with a plurality of model parameters (1 to 5) for this purpose. Once it has been acquired, a model alternating torque (MW) is compared to an actual alternating torque (IW). The model parameters are modified in accordance with the result of the comparison. The model yields realistic values of the combustion chamber value on the basis of the modified model parameters.
Abstract:
Systems for writing preferred servo patterns, and rotatable storage media including preferred servo patterns, are provided. Systems for controlling write currents to produce servo bursts having a desired width are also provided. In accordance with specific embodiments, the desired burst width is three-fourths of a data track wide. This description is not intended to be a complete description of, or limit the scope of, the invention. Other features, aspects, and objects of the invention can be obtained from a review of the specification, the figures and the claims.

Abstract:
A hard disk drive determines whether the hard disk drive is powered by a battery. This determination is used to select an operating RPM value for the hard disk drive. The fly height of a slider on a hard disk drive can be tested at a low operating RPM value. If the fly height is acceptable, the low operating RPM value is enabled to be selectable for the disk drive. In addition to a low operating RPM value, a high operating RPM value can also be selectable.
