摘要: Strategies for automatically selecting the most appropriate processing pipeline (or runtime) for a particular data item are described. In one embodiment, a media playing application automatically selects the most appropriate media processing pipeline for a media data item from multiple available processing pipelines, or candidates. In this regard, the application makes this selection by utilizing heuristic techniques to identify which available pipeline provides the most enhanced playback experience to a user with respect to certain attributes such as supported playback features and security. These heuristic techniques can take one or more criteria into account and can be implemented in any suitable way. By way of example and not limitation, in one embodiment, a selection process is used wherein potential pipeline candidates are ordered and sequentially evaluated.

摘要: Various embodiments permit access to a software component's functionality to be limited. In at least some embodiments, access to some or all of a component's functionality can be limited through the use of a validation identifier that is used as a means to validate another entity wishing to access the limited functionality or bind that entity to the particular component.

摘要: A method for treating intractable pain via electrical stimulation of the spinal cord. Remote, non-contact stimulation of a selected region of spinal cord is achieved by placement of a transceiver patch directly on the surface of that region of spinal cord, with said patch optionally being inductively coupled to a transmitter patch of similar size on either the outer or inner wall of the dura surrounding that region of the spinal cord. By inductively exchanging electrical power and signals between said transmitter and transceiver patches, and by carrying out the necessary electronic and stimulus signal distribution functions on the transceiver patch, the targeted dorsal column axons can be stimulated without the unintended stray stimulation of nearby dorsal rootlets. Novel configurations of a pliable surface-sheath and clamp or dentate ligament attachment features which realize undamaging attachment of the patch to the spinal cord are described.

摘要: A document accessible over a network can be registered. A registered document, and the content contained therein, cannot be transmitted undetected over and off of the network. In one embodiment, a plurality of stored signatures are maintained in a signature database, each signature being associated with one of a plurality of registered documents. In one embodiment, the signature database is maintained by de-registering documents by removing the signatures associated with de-registered documents. In one embodiment, the database is maintained by removing redundant and high detection rate signatures. In one embodiment, the signature database is maintained by removing signatures based on the source text used to generate the signature.

摘要: An addressable brush contact array comprising oriented conductive fibers attached to addressing electrodes to transfer imagewise charge to or from an array of individual electrodes on a two dimensional surface. The two dimensional surface receiving this charge can be, for example, the writing surface of an electronic paper display or the drum of a xerographic printer. The addressing electrodes generally consist of one or more linear rows of electrodes on a narrow wand or addressing bar. More than one row of electrodes the electrodes of each row may be staggered with respect to the electrodes of adjacent rows to enable a high fill of charge transfer without creating fabrication problems by spacing the fibers too close on adjacent electrodes.
