The said ammunition unit comprises cylindrical warhead charges (4, 5) that confine or form explosive compositions (23), on or around the outside of which there are effect layers or casing containing effect elements (25, 27). These effect elements together with the explosive compositions (24) constitute the combatant function. Two or more cylindrical warhead charges (4, 5) are arranged essentially parallel alongside each other or inside each other. Each of the cylindrical warhead charges comprises effect layers around their cylindrical outer surface that provide different effects in target. The cylindrical warhead charges are rotatably arranged to assume different rotational setting modes, and in each such mode the same type or co-ordinated types of effect layers are directed outwards.

If the pattern comprises a number of pulses an indication is given when a predetermined number of pulses has appeared to appears. Each electrical circuit causes or effects the opeation of the triggering device for its actuation depending on the said sensing and/or indication.

The present invention relates to a method of initiating explosive charges by means of splinter bodies (5) directed towards these at high speed by an external explosion. According to the invention, these splinter bodies (5) are given large surfaces or broadsides compared with their own mass and are forced to hit the explosive charge with their broadsides (5′) first in order thereby to transfer sufficient kinetic impulse energy to initiate the explosive charge. The invention also comprises splinter bodies (5) specially configured for the implementation of the said method of initiating explosive-filled bodies (2) and explosive charges (3′), intended for the implementation of the said method and provided with a splinter shell (7) comprising the type of splinter bodies (5) characteristic of the invention.

The present invention relates to a method and a device for combating a pre-determined target with submunitions directed at the target from an airborne carrier in the form of a rocket, missile or equivalent (1) whereby the submunitions (17) are of the type whose main effect in target derives from impact with the target. As claimed in the present invention the submunitions (17) are given both a lateral motion vector (34) relative to the direction of flight of the carrier and a motion vector (35) in the direction of flight of the carrier. Jointly these motion vectors give the submunitions a resultant motion vector in a direction (36) towards the target. When the present invention is used the submunitions (17) are given the actual combined motion by the rotating magazine (5) in which they are stowed that rotates up to a high rate around the direction of flight of the carrier (1) before the submunitions leave the carrier when the centrifugal force gives them their lateral motion vector and they acquire their longitudinal motion vector from the direction of flight of the carrier.

The primary liner (4) is so devised that when choosing a first choice (11) of being able to work independently and by employing a symmetrical form achieving a forward-aimed Shaped Charge Warhead (SCW) effect upon explosive charge initiation by means of the material (7, 8) indicated for the primary liner. A secondary liner (5) is devised with a second choice (12) to be able to work together with the primary liner and together cause an asymmetric form that distributes the material (18, 19) from the liners at different velocities to thereby cause a forward-directed fragmentation effect. The ammunition unit (1) can, thus, be designed or prepared for two different combat cases in a technologically simple and unambiguous manner.

The device includes a range of modules pertaining to different types of warhead effects. When engaging an actual type of target the ammunition unit is assembled with an array of modules-selected from the range of modules-matched to different types of targets or engagement situations, with the array of modules secured to the fuselage or casing by securing devices.
