Abstract: According to one embodiment, a fixing device includes a fixing member, a temperature sensor unit, a heater unit, and a controller. The fixing member has a surface that contacts a sheet. The temperature sensor unit is configured to measure a temperature of the surface of the fixing member. The heater unit is configured to heat the member when turned ON. The controller is configured to output a notification indicating an abnormality in the temperature measurement by the temperature sensor unit if an ON time of the heater unit during an operation period for controlling the fixing member to be at a target temperature, as measured by the temperature sensor unit, is longer than a predetermined threshold time.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus has an image forming unit to form a toner image on a first sheet and a fixing unit configured to heat the first sheet to fix the image to the first sheet. A control unit begins a cooling process for cooling the fixing unit when an overheating condition is met, then permits the image forming unit to form a toner image on a second sheet after the cooling process ends according to a first cooling condition if a person is detected near the image forming apparatus or after the cooling process ends according to a second cooling condition if a person not detected near the image forming apparatus. The cooling process under the first cooling condition ends in less time than under the second cooling condition.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes a fixer including a rotating body and a heating member to heat the rotating body. A temperature sensor is positioned to detect a temperature of the rotating body and output a temperature detection result. A heating control circuit is configured to estimate the temperature of the rotating body based on the temperature detection result, a power supply voltage value, an energization pulse setting for controlling the heating member, a heat capacity of the fixer, and a heat resistance of the fixer. The control circuit generates an energization pulse for controlling power supplied to the heating member based on the estimated temperature and the temperature detection result. A controller detects a variation in the heat capacity of the fixer device and supplies a correction amount for the heat capacity corresponding to the detected variation to the heating control circuit.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit configured to form a toner image on a recording medium, a heating unit and a pressurizing unit provided in a fixing unit, a first heater, a second heater, and a control unit configured to alternately repeat a heating state and a non-heating state for the respective heaters and heat the heating unit. Abstract: A temperature control device controls a temperature of a temperature control target to which heat is propagated from a heater by supplying power to the heater. The temperature control device includes processing circuitry that acquires a temperature measurement result of the temperature control target from a temperature sensor. The processing circuitry estimates an input voltage being supplied to the heater based on an energization time of the heater and a change in the temperature of the temperature control target during the energization time. The processing circuitry generates a temperature estimation result by estimating the temperature of the temperature control target based on a previous energization pulse used to control energization of the heater and the input voltage. The processing circuitry outputs the energization pulse to control the power supplied to the heater based on the temperature estimation result and the temperature measurement result.
