摘要: A method for producing an optical fiber preform is provided in which the variation of the outer diameter in the longitudinal direction is minimized and a target quantity of glass is accumulated as a whole. Based on a predetermined relationship between three variables: the outer diameter of a starting rod being a first variable, the outer diameter of an optical fiber preform a second variable, and the timing for ending the glass particles depositing process a third variable, the starting rod and burners are subjected to relative reciprocating movement so as to deposit glass particles on the starting rod until the timing for ending the depositing process, and then the resulting deposit body is vitrified. The third variable may be the traverse velocity, the glass particles deposition time, or the weight of a soot glass deposit body.

摘要: A plurality of glass particle synthesizing burners are disposed opposite to a rotating starting rod. The starting rod and the glass particle synthesizing burners are relatively reciprocally moved to each other in parallel to the axial direction, so that glass particles synthesized by the burners are sequentially deposited on the surface of the starting rod. The movement is stopped and restarted repeatedly once or more than once during one reciprocal movement.

摘要: A dispersion-shifted fiber includes structure configured to effectively reduce nonlinear optical effects and transmission loss caused by structural mismatching. A core region in the dispersion-shifted fiber includes an inner core and an outer core, which are both glass areas. The inner core is doped with a predetermined amount of fluorine, having an average relative refractive index difference &Dgr;n1. The outer core is disposed between the inner core and the cladding region and is doped with a predetermined amount of germanium dioxide, having an average relative refractive index difference &Dgr;n2(&Dgr;n2>&Dgr;n1), such that the viscosity ratio between the inner core and the outer core at a drawing temperature is set within a predetermined range, thereby effectively restraining structural mismatching from occurring at the boundary between these glass regions.

摘要: An elecrically-operated tacker includes means for driving a tack which is urged toward a muzzle section by a spring, an operating means for moving the driving means back to a starting position, a switch having a push button, a trigger means having a pair of first and second depressing elements, a control member for maintaining the first depressing element in an operative position, a safety means for normally maintaining the control member in a safety position, first and second engaging elements provided on the operating means, third, fourth and fifth engaging elements on the driving means, and a release means. Initially the driving means is located in a starting position immediately before a first extreme position. When the trigger is depressed, the push button is depressed by the first depressing element to move the driving means for a slight distance to the first extreme position so that the driving means springs to the second extreme position by the action of the spring to drive a tack. At substantially the same time that the driving means springs to the second extreme position, the first depressing element is forced out of the engagement with the push button. However, before the first depressing element is disengaged therefrom, the second depressing element is allowed to engage with the push button. When the driving means has reached the second extreme position, the second engaging element engages with the third engaging element to move the driving means to a substantially middle position and, then the first engaging element engages with the fourth engaging element to move the driving means to the starting position. At the same time that the driving means reaches the starting position, the release means disengages the second depressing element from the push button of the switch to switch the tacker off.

摘要: The present invention relates to a dispersion-shifted optical fiber which comprises a structure for effectively eliminating the causes of deterioration in characteristics at the making stage thereof and is suitable for wavelength division multiplexing transmission. In the dispersion-shifted optical fiber according to the present invention, impurities to be added and the contents thereof are adjusted so as to reduce viscosity difference at each interface between individual glass regions. As a consequence of this structure, occurrence of structural irregularity and glass defect are effectively restrained in the vicinity of the interfaces between the regions.

摘要: A hedge trimmer includes a motor and a cutting mechanism driven by the motor. A clutch mechanism is interposed between the motor and the cutting mechanism. A first and a second handle are provided to be grasped with both hands of an operator. A clutch control mechanism is provided for connecting and disconnecting the clutch mechanism. The clutch control mechanism includes a first and a second switch lever which are associated with the first and second handles, respectively, and which are operable by the operator between a first and a second position, respectively. A pin is operably connected to the first and second switch levers and is movable between a connecting position for connecting the clutch mechanism and a disconnecting position for disconnecting the clutch mechanism. Biasing members serve to hold the pin at the disconnecting position when at least one of the first and second switch levers are at the first position. The biasing members permit movement of the pin from the disconnecting position to the connecting position when both the first and second switch levers are moved from the first position to the second position.
