    摘要: A small watercraft hull defines a vertically oriented, central longitudinal plane of the watercraft. The hull has an engine compartment with an internal combustion engine disposed therein. The engine has an engine body comprising a crankcase, a cylinder block and a cylinder head and includes at least one cylinder bore defining a cylinder axis. An air induction system is provided to guide air into a combustion chamber of the engine. The air induction system includes a plenum chamber. An exhaust system is also provided for guiding exhaust gases from the combustion chamber to the atmosphere. The exhaust system includes an exhaust conduit. The cylinder axis is canted with respect to the central plane and the exhaust conduit is disposed substantially on a side of the central plane to which the cylinder axis is canted. The plenum chamber is positioned on a side of the central plane opposite the exhaust conduit and extends substantially vertically from a position proximate the crankcase to a position proximate the cylinder head.

    摘要: A small watercraft includes a four-cycle engine which is arranged within a hull of the watercraft to enhance ventilation of and air induction into the engine. The hull includes at least one air duct which opens into an engine compartment within the hull at a level below an upper rim of the flywheel. A case cover of the flywheel assembly acts as a guide to direct at least a portion of the air flow, which enters the engine compartment at this location, upward over the engine and toward the engine's air intake. The engine also can be oriented to angle its output shaft relative to a keel line of the hull in order to provide ample space for a sufficiently sized flywheel assembly, as well as to decrease the distance between the bottom of the watercraft and the axis of the impeller shaft. As a result, the length from the gullet inlet and to the impeller is shortened to improve pumping efficiency and thus enhance thrust performance.

    摘要: A watercraft having a water propulsion unit driven by an impeller shaft which is powered by a four-cycle internal combustion engine is disclosed. The engine has a crankshaft which drives, via a transmission, the impeller shaft. The transmission is arranged so that the crankshaft of the engine does not contact lubricant in a lubricant reservoir of a lubricating system of the engine. In a first arrangement, the four-cycle engine includes an oil reservoir positioned at a lower portion of the engine. In this arrangement, a crankshaft of the engine extends along an axis above an axis along which the impeller shaft rotates, where the crankshaft and impeller shaft are in driving relation via a gear-type transmission. In a second arrangement, the engine is provided with a dry-sump type lubricating system with an oil reservoir positioned remote of the bottom of the engine, such as on the hull. In this arrangement, the engine is positioned adjacent the bottom of the watercraft, and the crankshaft extends in alignment with the impeller shaft.

    摘要: Several embodiments of personal watercraft employing exhaust systems that incorporate not only a catalyst, but also an exhaust silencing device for silencing the sounds of the exhaust gases. The components are laid out in such a way that there will be minimum heat transfer from the exhaust gases to the engine compartment, and also so that there will be a cooling air flow across the exhaust system to further provide this result. In one embodiment, the silencing device is mounted transversely at the front of the engine, and in other embodiments it is disposed longitudinally to the rear of the engine. In all embodiments, the components are laid out to maintain good fore and aft and side to side balance.

    摘要: Several embodiments of personal watercraft having a V bottom hulls that define an engine compartment in which an internal combustion engine is positioned. This engine drives a propulsion device for the watercraft through an appropriate transmission. The engine includes an engine body having an opening into which a fuel injector injects. The fuel injector is positioned so that its spray axis is oriented so that it is not likely to intersect the walls of the engine that define the opening regardless of the angular position of the watercraft in the body of water in which it is operating. Both direct and manifold injected and two and four cycle engines are disclosed.

    摘要: In accordance with the present invention there is provided a cooling system for a four-cycle engine utilized to power a water propulsion device of a watercraft of the type including a propulsion passage having an inlet in the bottom of the hull and an outlet at the stern of the watercraft. In a first embodiment, coolant is delivered from the propulsion passage to an exhaust manifold cooling jacket, then to at least one passage extending through the engine and then an exhaust pipe cooling jacket. As an additional aspect of the invention, coolant is provided to an oil cooler for cooling lubricating oil used to lubricate the engine. In another embodiment of the present invention, an exhaust cooling system is provided for the four-cycle engine powering the watercraft, separate from the cooling system for the cylinder block and cylinder head of the engine. Coolant is supplied through cooling jackets provided along substantially the length of the exhaust system from the engine to a discharge from the watercraft.

    摘要: A small watercraft includes a lubrication system having at least one pump, a lubricant reservoir, and a lubricant filter. The lubricant pump is configured to circulate lubricant between the reservoir, the filter and the engine. The lubricant filter is arranged either on a forward side or a rearward side of the lubricant reservoir. Alternatively, the lubricant filter may be mounted on a side of the engine opposite the lubricant reservoir and on a forward side or rearward side of the exhaust manifold. Further, the lubricant pump and the lubricant reservoir may be mounted rearward from a rear end of the engine body. Each of the arrangements provide an engine having a compactly arranged lubrication system which minimizes the affect on the overall width of the engine caused by the lubrication system.
