Abstract: Methods for the production of magnetic powders, compacted magnetic bodies and sintered magnetic bodies. The methods include the use of metal carboxylate precursor compounds such as metal oxalates. The precursor compounds are heated under pressure to form metal alloy particles which can be directly formed into compacted magnetic bodies or can be further refined by using a reductant at elevated temperatures and pressures. The sintered magnetic bodies may have strong magnetic properties even if produced in the absence of a strong magnetic field.

Abstract: Methods for the manufacture of fine metal powders from metal-containing ammonium compounds such as ammonium oxalate metal salts. The method includes decomposing particulates of the ammonium oxalate metal salt by heating to a decomposition temperature in the presence of a dilute hydrogen gas to decompose the ammonium oxalate compound, and form a fine metal powder by heating to a higher refining temperature to remove contaminants from the fine metal powder. The method may include the conversion of a non-oxalate metal compound to a hydrated metal oxalate and the dehydration of the hydrated metal oxalate before decomposition to the metal. The method is applicable to the production of a wide variety of metals of high purity and fine particle size.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for the treatment of wastewater streams to form purified water and a mineral-containing by-product. The wastewater stream may be a brine or produced water from an oil/gas extraction operation. The method includes passing the wastewater stream through a membrane assembly having a pervaporation membrane, whereby purified water vapor is collected from the permeate side of the membrane. A mineral-rich product may be recovered from the retentate, and/or a mineral-rich crystalline phase may deposit on the membrane and may be recovered as a solid from the membrane or may be washed off the membrane and collected.
