    摘要: The invention relates to magnetic discs in which first a non-magnetic intermediate layer and then the magnetic coating are applied by conventional methods to an aluminum disc. The intermediate layer applied to the non-magnetic metallic carrier disc is a hard non-magnetic coating which can be polished and which consists of a dispersion of a pulverulent mixture of finely divided inorganic non-magnetic pigments having a Mohs' hardness of at least 7 in a binder which can be cured and which provides firm cohesion of the pigment particles and good adhesion thereof to the non-magnetic base disc, the pigment mixture containing at least 3 percent by weight of corundum powder having a particle size of from about 1 to 20.mu.u. Magnetic discs with very thin magnetic coatings which possess good magnetic and mechanical properties and whose thickness varies only minimally are thus produced in a simple manner.

    摘要: A process for the manufacture of improved magnetic discs by applying a thin layer of a fluid dispersion of magnetic pigments and optional non-magnetic pigments in a binder mixture to a non-magnetic rigid base and curing the magnetic layer which has been applied. The binder consists essentially of from 60 to 90 percent by weight of a solid curable polycondensate of 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-propane and epichlorohydrin having an epoxide equivalent weight of approximately 400 to 5,000, from 5 to 25 percent by weight of a curable allyloxybenzene-formaldehyde condensate of the resol type with free or alcohol-etherified methylol groups and a molecular weight of less thah 1,000, and from 5 to 30 percent by weight of a curable melamine-formaldehyde condensate with more than two alcohol-etherified methylol groups and a molecular weight of less than 3,000, from 10 to 35 percent by weight of the above epoxy resin being replaced by a reaction product of an epoxy group-containing polycondensate of 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-propane and epichlorohydrin with the N-methylolamide of a copolymerizable olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid of 3 to 5 carbon atoms. The magnetic layers thus produced adhere firmly to the base, can be readily ground and polished and are particularly resistant to wear when the magnetic discs are in use.

    摘要: Luster pigments comprising coated, plateletlike, silicatic substrates wherein the coating comprises a layer consisting essentially of carbon and aluminum oxide, chromium oxide, cerium oxide, zirconium oxide, antimony oxide or mixtures thereof, are obtainable by applying carbon-containing compounds of the metals aluminum, chromium, cerium, zirconium, antimony or mixtures thereof with or without further carbon-containing compounds of the molecular formula (CH.sub.2 O).sub.n, where n is from 1 to 6 for one monomeric unit, to the substrate particles and then thermally decomposing the carbon-containing compounds on the surface of the substrate particles under oxygen-excluding conditions.
