Abstract: In some embodiments, a method for selecting an egress point for accessing an external network associated with a distributed logical router that is distributed across at least a first computing device and a second computing device is provided. The method receives, by an instance of the logical router at the first computing device, first identification information and a first preference value. The method compares the first preference value to a second preference value. The second preference value is associated with second identification information corresponding to a current computing device that is identified as a current preferred egress point for the logical router. The method determines whether to set the egress point connected to the instance of the logical router in the second computing device as a new preferred egress point for the logical router.

Abstract: A port is dynamically added to and removed from a virtual switch. The new port may be allocated when there is sufficient free memory in a pool of memory associated with the virtual switch. When an existing port is deallocated, the portion of the pool of memory allocated to that existing port is freed up. As a result, a virtual machine that requires one or more ports on the virtual switch may be provisioned on a host so long as the pool of memory is sized properly and memory usage on the host is not excessive.

Abstract: Exemplary methods, apparatuses, and systems include virtualization software of a host computer receiving a first packet addressed to a first virtual link layer address. Each of a first plurality of virtual machines on the first host computer is configured to share the first virtual link layer address. The virtualization software of the first host computer maps a flow of packets, including the first packet, to a first virtual machine within the first plurality of virtual machines and forwards the first packet to the first virtual machine. The virtualization software of the first host computer receives a second packet from the first virtual machine in response to the first packet. The second packet includes the first virtual link layer address as a source address for the first virtual machine.
