摘要:
Glucosamine compositions comprising the compounds glucosamine sulfate metal chloride, wherein the metal, i.e., the cation is potassium, sodium, magnesium, lithium, calcium, zinc or manganese. The compounds have purity levels of at least about 97%, with water present in a maximum amount of about 10 wt. %, based on the weight of the composition. The compounds are prepared by contacting glucosamine hydrochloride with a hydroxide of the metal in the presence of water to form a first aqueous solution of the free glucosamine base and a chloride of the metal, acidifying the first aqueous solution with sulfuric acid to form a second aqueous solution of glucosamine sulfate and the chloride of the metal, and thereafter freeze-drying the second aqueous solution at a temperature and at a reduced pressure for such period of time that at least about 90 wt. % of the water is removed and decomposition of the compound glucosamine sulfate metal chloride is limited to a maximum of about 3%.

A chemiluminescent composition comprising an oxalate component comprising polystyrene or homopoly-.alpha.-methylstyrene containing an oxalate ester; an activator component comprising a solution of a peroxide compound and a catalyst in a first solvent; and a fluorescer contained in the oxalate component, activator component, or in both the oxalate component and the activator component. The first solvent is preferably a propylene glycol dialkyl ether. The chemiluminescent composition, when activated, permits light to be produced of controllable duration.

A process for preparing pure antihistamine tannate compositions. The antihistamine in the form of its free base is contacted with tannic acid in the presence of water for a period of time of about 5 minutes to 4 hours and at a maximum temperature such that not more than about 5 wt. % of the antihistamine tannate will be decomposed. Water is removed from the antihistamine tannate by freeze-drying.

A chemiluminescent composition comprising an oxalate component comprising an oxalate ester and a solvent, an activator component comprising a peroxide compound and a catalyst and a fluorescer contained in the oxalate component and/or the activator component. The solvent contained in the oxalate component comprises a propylene glycol dihydrocarbyl ether containing one to three propylene moieties and each hydrocarbyl moiety contains up to 8 carbon atoms and is independently selected from the group consisting of straight chain alkyl, branched chain alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkaryl and aralkyl groups.

The invention pertains to a method for preparing diphenhydramine tannate by reacting diphenhydramine free base at a temperature of about 75 to about 150° C. with tannic acid neat or as an aqueous slurry containing up to about 20 wt. % water. The diphenhydramine free base may be obtained by reacting a commercially available diphenhydramine salt such as diphenhydramine maleate with a base such as aqueous sodium hydroxide. The resultant diphenhydramine tannate has extended release properties and is useful in pharmaceutical compositions as an antihistamine for human beings.

The invention pertains to a novel composition comprising guaifenesin tannate and to a method for preparing guaifenesin tannate by reacting guaifenesin with tannic acid at a temperature above the melting point of guaifenesin. The guaifenesin tannate has extended release properties and is useful in pharmaceutical compositions as an expectorant in warm-blooded animals or as a muscle relaxant in non-human animals.

A composition comprising the compound glucosamine sulfate potassium chloride having a purity level of at least about 97% and water present in a maximum amount of about 10 wt. %, based on the weight of the composition. The compound is prepared by contacting glucosamine hydrochloride with potassium sulfate in the presence of water to form an aqueous solution of glucosamine sulfate potassium chloride and thereafter freeze-drying the solution at a temperature and at a reduced pressure for such period of time that at least about 90 wt. % of the water is removed and decomposition of the compound glucosamine sulfate potassium chloride is limited to a maximum of about 3%.
摘要:
A process for the restoration of the initial chemical lighting potential of the oxalate component of a chemiluminescent lighting system. The oxalate component comprises an oxalate diester in a first liquid solution which prior to restoration exhibits a failure to produce initial high intensity luminosity upon mixture of the oxalate component with a liquid activator component comprising a peroxide in a second liquid solution. The process comprises contacting the oxalate component with magnesium silicate or calcium silicate for a period of time sufficient to correct the failure and thereafter separating the oxalate component from the selected silicate.

A two component chemiluminescent composition comprising an oxalate component and a peroxide component together with a fluorescer and a catalyst which comprises a magnesium salt of salicylic acid or a substituted salicylic acid such as magnesium salicylate, magnesium-3,5,6-trichlorosalicylate, magnesium-3,5-dichloro-salicylate or magnesium-3-chlorosalicylate. High intensity chemiluminescent light of long duration is instantly produced when the two components are mixed.
