The data mining component may also generate data regarding such sequential item acquisition patterns. For example, the data mining component may determine whether user acquisitions of the two items tend to be spaced apart in time by a characterizing time interval, and/or may determine percentages of users who have followed particular sequential acquisition patterns. Information regarding the detected sequential item acquisition patterns may be exposed to users on electronic catalog pages, and/or may be used to select the timing with which particular items are recommended to users.

    摘要: A data mining component collectively analyzes item acquisition histories of users of an electronic catalog of items to identify pairs of items that tend to be acquired sequentially. For each such item pair, the data mining component may also determine whether user acquisitions of the two items tend to be spaced apart in time by a characterizing time interval. In addition, the data mining component may calculate one or more conditional probability values reflective of the frequency with which users who acquire the first item in the pair acquire the second item after waiting for a particular interval of time. The item relationship data extracted by the data mining component may be displayed in the electronic catalog in association with corresponding catalog items to assist users in selecting items to acquire, and/or may be used to generate personalized item recommendations.

    摘要: A method and system for producing an item comparison may initially include obtaining data based on user activity that is indicative of an item and other items likely to be comparable to the item, and recording the data for later access. An item comparison may thereafter present an item of interest to the user along with other items identified based on the recorded data. Prior to producing the item comparison, the user may be provided at least one list of potentially comparable items that can be selected for the item comparison, the list including items in the recorded data that are likely to be comparable to the item of interest. The recorded data may be specific to the user or may include data obtained from other users. Data reflecting user activity with an item comparison may be recorded as additional data indicative of comparable items.

    摘要: A computer-implemented process identifies useful alternative spellings of search strings submitted to a search engine. The process takes into consideration spelling changes made by users, as detected by programmatically analyzing search string submissions of a population of search engine users. In one embodiment, an assessment of whether a second search string represents a useful alternative spelling of a first search string takes into consideration (1) an edit distance between the first and second search strings, and (2) a likelihood that a user who submits the first search string will thereafter submit the second search string, as determined by monitoring and analyzing actions of users.
