摘要: A method of network-directed service status order at a mobile station, includes the steps of: (a) from the mobile station sending an origination message, over the network, requesting a service with the network; (b) in response to the origination message, at the mobile station receiving over the network a status message of a status of the requested service, the status message identifying one of a grant of the requested service and a denial of the requested service; and (c) operating the mobile station in an unambiguous state in accordance with the received status message.

摘要: A method and apparatus for packet data service discovery are described. A current blacklist comprising entries for wireless networks not providing packet data services (i.e. either not supporting the services or not having a packet data services roaming agreement) is kept in memory of the mobile device based on previous attempts to connect to such networks. Current preferred roaming lists identify whether a given wireless network can be acquired, but do not identify whether a data services roaming agreement exists. At least one of the following advantages is provided: no advance knowledge of data services roaming agreements is required; no mobile device software change is required when the data services roaming agreement changes; mobile device can notify a server of a wireless network status change; significant power savings at the mobile device; and avoid unnecessary network access, which in turn saves network resources and capacity.

摘要: Generally, the present invention provides a method for detecting poor RF conditions, and entering different sleep mode levels or phases in accordance with the RF conditions to save battery power. Mobile device battery life can be conserved when the mobile device detects poor RF conditions and enters a deep sleep mode of operation. In this deep sleep mode of operation the mobile device periodically samples the RF conditions and gradually increases the period between samples when the RF conditions do not improve. Because mobility can change the RF condition for wireless devices even in areas of good RF coverage, the mobile device operating in the deep sleep mode can detect this mobility and thus enhance the probability of entering an idle state, or alternatively, entering a longer power save mode. When the RF condition improves, the mobile device exits from the deep sleep mode and returns to the idle state.

摘要: A method of timer-based registration prevents timer-based registrations that are not needed from being sent. A history is maintained of time instances of implicit registrations transmitted by a mobile station over a communications network. If an elapsed time between a pair of successive ones of the time instances in the history is not less than a registration period with the network, a timer-based registration of the mobile station with the communications network is initiated after the expiry of a random time value less than the registration period. Otherwise, a timer-based registration is initiated after the expiry of a time period equal to the registration period.

摘要: Using an initial channel, it is indicated that a message is to be delivered over at least a further channel. The initial and further channels are each comprised of at least one time slot. An initial bit value is assigned to an initial portion of the time slot of the initial channel. After assigning the initial bit value, it is determined whether a corresponding portion of the further channel is available for the message. A further bit value is assigned to a further portion of the time slot of the initial channel. The further bit value is indicative of a result of the determination.

摘要: The present invention provides an improved method of alerting a remote device in an idle state over a channel. A value R1, which is the location of an initial PI bit within an initial half of at least one time slot on the channel, is computed based on a hashing algorithm defined in IS-2000 that uses information about the remote device. The initial indicator bit is assigned a binary value by the base station. Then, a value R2, which is the location of a further bit on a further half of the at least one time slot on the channel, is computed based on an improved hashing algorithm. Then, the further indicator bit is assigned a binary value by the base station. Then, the remote device in the idle state is alerted over the channel based on the assigned bit location R1 and further bit location R2.
