    摘要: A diving apparatus for a diver underwater includes a portable habitat in which a breathable environment is maintained underwater. The habitat has a collapsible envelope. The collapsible envelope takes shape through inflation to an expanded state underwater. The habitat has a modular payload which removably attaches to the envelope underwater. The habitat has a seat on which a diver can sit while the habitat is underwater. The modular payload has a breathable gas source to provide breathable gas for the diver to breathe in the habitat and a carbon dioxide scrubber which removes carbon dioxide from the environment when the habitat is underwater. The apparatus has an anchor mechanism attached to the habitat to maintain the habitat at a desired depth underwater. A method for a diver to dive underwater.     摘要: A keyboard apparatus is provided for small and lightweight computers and the like. Keyswitches and a keyboard assembly comprise a sheet member having a plurality of key faces fixed thereon in a conventional keyboard arrangement. A plurality of cutouts are provided in the sheet member, partially surrounding each key face. Two living hinge members are provided in the sheet member, preferably at opposite sides of the cutout. Each living hinge member includes a base section, an intermediate section, and a key face section. The former two and the latter two sections each interface at a living hinge. Depressing the key face causes the key face sections of each of the hinge members to pivot about the living hinges to operate a corresponding set of electrical contacts, indicating operation of the key. The multiple hinge members provide stability to the downward motion of the key face, providing goood functionality and tactile feel. In a preferred embodiment, a first one of the hinge members includes a relatively wide key face section with a notch in the middle. The notch accommodates a relatively narrow key fact section of the second hinge member, so that the second hinge member nests within the first hinge member when the key face is depressed.

    摘要: Disclosed is a folding keyboard of at least two sections, each having an opening therein which is open on the facing ends thereof, and a multilayer sheet for making the electrical connections upon actuation of the keys, the multilayer sheet having substantial stiffness in the flat, planar direction and limited flexibility perpendicular to the planar direction which allows bending about a curvature, the multilayer sheet being fixed in only one of the sections, whereby when the sections are in the open, unfolded position, the multilayer sheet is straightened into a flat, planar shape and registered with the keys of the other sections, and when in the closed, folded position is curved in the perpendicular, cylindrical direction between the sections and slid from the registered position in the other section towards the open facing end thereof. Additionally, the multilayer sheet is cut along any keys which protrude beyond the folding axis so as to allow the cylindrical curving thereof. Further, a coating is provided to assist in the slidability of the multilayer sheet.

The system includes a hand held pointing device that is capable of two way communication with appliance interfaces associated with appliances that are controllable by the hand held pointing device. The hand held pointer is capable of transmitting signals to the appliance interfaces and receiving response signals from the appliance interfaces. The hand held pointing device further includes a visible light projection apparatus for projecting light onto a remote surface. The projected light is displaced on the remote surface by a light projection modification apparatus such that the projected light creates images corresponding to the response signals from the appliance interfaces.

    摘要: A method of directing communication between addressable, electronically-controllable appliances using a generalized pointing device is provided. The pointing device can communicate with dissimilar types of target appliance, and each appliance is associated with an appliance interface that makes the target appliance compatible with the pointing device. Use of the method to direct communication between appliances is believed to allow the convenience associated with the use of a computer's graphical user interface (GUI) to be realized in communication with physical objects, i.e., the target appliances. In particular, the “drag-and-drop” method of using a GUI may be analogous to the pointer-mediated interaction between appliances provided herein. An embodiment of the method includes using the pointing device for: transmitting a selection signal to the first appliance, transmitting a command instructing the first appliance to transmit data, transmitting a selection signal to a second appliance, and transmitting a command instructing the second appliance to receive the transmitted data. The data transmitted between appliances may be sent along a pointer-independent transmission path between the appliances, such as over a network. Additionally or alternatively, data may be transmitted from one appliance to the pointer, and then from the pointer to the other appliance.

The method includes determining a position of a user's eye gaze, identifying a content displayed at the position of the user's eye gaze, determining an audio corresponding to the content, and outputting the audio. The method of the present invention allows the user's reading to drive the text to speech conversion, resulting in the computer reading what the user is currently reading. The user may then read text at a variable rate and at different positions, with the text to speech conversion following the user. The method of the present invention may be used to help raise users' literacy levels, to help users learn to read faster, to help boost reading comprehension, to help users scan documents, and to provide feedback for positioning and control. The present invention is thus flexible and has a range of utilities.
