Abstract:
Presented are a method, system, and apparatus for determining whether an electronically submitted medical claim has a high likelihood of being fraud, waste, and/or abuse in medical billing. A computing device receives the electronic medical claim containing a subject patient identifier identifying a subject patient. A plurality of subject patient characteristic datapoints are accessed with the subject patient identifier and the datapoints segmented. Event codes regarding each patient are accessed to generate one or more event sequences. The event sequences are grouped according to a particular event followed by one or more related events and analyzed to calculate a probability the related events following the particular event. The event sequences are analyzed again and a probability calculated of the particular event following the related events. Other steps may be utilized, and the submitted medical claim dishonored if it has a high likelihood of being fraud, waste, and/or abuse.
Abstract:
Methods, systems and processor-readable media for modeling and optimizing multiple ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) strategies utilizing a systematic genetic algorithm. A traffic simulation model can be configured in conjunction with a genetic algorithm based optimization engine for optimizing the transportation models. An origin-destination matrix that minimizes discrepancies between a simulated and an observed link traffic count can be estimated by considering a road network and a traffic count with respect to a region. A driver behavior can then be determined utilizing the origin-destination matrix via calibration so that the simulation model can replicate a freeway traffic flow in the region. An optimal parameter with respect to the ITS strategies can be determined to optimize a set goal with respect to a given constraint. Such an approach meets a level of service (LOS) metric as well as a revenue target under the applied ITS strategies.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method of predicting the end of life of a consumable. A basic weighted least squares algorithm has been extended and augmented to compensate for observed common consumable/printer behavior. The system uses consumable usage data (such as toner level) acquired from the device to predict the current and future consumable level and to predict the remaining life. The apparatus and method monitors the consumable's usage and updates the prediction so that when the predicted remaining life matches a preset threshold, it automatically triggers an order placement event to ship product to customer.
Abstract:
An apparatus for reducing registration errors in a media handling device. The apparatus including an image-bearing member having sheets individually pass across the image-bearing member. Each sheet pass corresponds to one of a series of iterations between the image-bearing member and the sheets. The image-bearing member is operatively coupled to a controller for regulation motion of the image-bearing member. The controller receives input signals representing at least one measured disturbance. Each disturbance being defined by a pattern of image-bearing member movement away from and substantially returning to a reference state of motion. A repetition of the pattern being coincident with at least one of the iterations, wherein based on the measured disturbance, the reference state and an indication associated with when the pattern will repeat, a modified signal is generated for the actuator to adjust the image-bearing member motion in coordination with the indication.

Abstract:
A method, non-transitory computer readable medium, and apparatus for predicting a location behavior of at least one individual are disclosed. For example, the method receives a plurality of social networking messages having spatial location data and user identification information, filters the plurality of social networking messages to remove one or more of the plurality of social networking messages that are not related to mobility of a user to create a filtered plurality of social networking messages, creates a population model by applying a kernel density estimation to the filtered plurality of social networking messages, creates an individual model for each different user identification by applying the kernel density estimation to a subset of the filtered plurality of social networking messages for the each different user identification and generates a probability density function map that predicts the location behavior of the at least one individual.
