摘要: A system and method for Viterbi decoding on encrypted data is disclosed. At the receiver, maximum likelihood decoding is performed based on received input in the encryption domain. When selecting a path from one stage of a Viterbi decoding trellis to the next, a local metric may be associated with each of the possible paths based on Euclidean distance between a received symbol and a path state. The path state is determined by encrypting the binary path state. An overall metric is associated with each state equivalent to a sum of local path metrics along a survivor path of selected paths. At the end of the Viterbi decoding trellis, a decoded and decrypted bit sequence is obtained by tracing back in a conventional manner.

摘要: A method of decrypting data comprising encrypting bit-wise data, using a first plural bit mask, modulating the data into symbol format, and transmitting the symbol format data to a receiving apparatus, in a receiving apparatus, rotating a current received symbol sample by an amount equal to one of (i) its difference in phase from an immediately preceding received symbol sample toward the phase of the immediately preceding received symbol sample phase, and (ii) by an amount equal to estimated carrier phase towards zero phase, generating a second bit mask subset derived from values of the first bit mask, comprising plural bits for each symbol, reflecting the rotated symbol by a phase defined by the plural bits to form a symbol which is devoid of encryption, and providing the symbol devoid of encryption to a soft-decision decoder.

摘要: A system implements a method of allocating a mobile communications device, such as a mobile end station, to packet channels, such as packet control channels within a cell. A mobile communications device identifies for access a packet channel by executing an algorithm, such as a hashing algorithm. The mobile communications device then reads a loading message broadcast for that packet channel. If the loading message indicates to the mobile communications device that another packet channel or PCCH should be sought, the mobile communications device tunes to a beacon frequency and reads information for each packet channel or PCCH broadcast at the beacon frequency. The mobile then tunes to a suitable channel. The processing to select a suitable channel is accomplished in the mobile communications device, thereby relieving other system elements, such as the mobile data base station (MDBS) from carrying out that processing and reducing the information traffic on overloaded channels.

摘要: The invention provides a method and apparatus for transmitting real-time data in a multi-access system which eliminates clipping of the data while reducing transmission delays. The invention can be incorporated in any multi-access system where transmission resources are allocated when there is information to transmit. In a preferred embodiment, the invention is incorporated in a multi-access wireless system for the upstream transmission of voice from a mobile station to a base station. Each speech segment received at the mobile is shortened by appropriate editing and buffered until transmission. By editing and buffering speech segments as they are received, clipping can be eliminated while reducing transmission delays.

摘要: For a hierarchical mobile cellular communications system comprising a plurality of microcells and overlaid macrocells, a method is disclosed for estimating the speed of a mobile. The speed estimate assists in the assignment of slow-moving mobiles to microcells and fast-moving mobiles to macrocells, thus keeping the cellular system in optimum utilization. The method first calculates a power signal of the received signals. The power signal is then filtered and decimated. The speed of a mobile is estimated from a determination of the offset autocorrelation of the filtered and decimated power signal.

摘要: To perform handoff of a mobile station from a source wireless network controller of one wireless access technology to a target wireless network controller of a different wireless access technology, a first message for initiating a handoff is sent from the source wireless network controller to the target wireless network controller. The source wireless network controller receives, from the target wireless network controller, a second message responsive to the first message, where the second message contains information to enable identification of cell segments neighboring the target wireless network controller for which signal strength measurements are to be performed. In response to the second message, signal strength measurements made by the mobile station are received by the target wireless network controller.

摘要: A base station produces a power control bit dependent on SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) determined for each time slot of a signal received from a remote station of a cellular communications system. If the SNR exceeds an upper threshold by an upper threshold margin, the power control bit is a binary 0 and the upper threshold margin is increased; if the SNR is below a lower threshold by a lower threshold margin, the power control bit is a binary 1 and the lower threshold margin is increased; and otherwise the power control bit alternates its binary value for successive time slots and setting the threshold margins are reset. In the remote station, the power control bits are accumulated by a bidirectional counter and the transmitted signal power is only changed up or down in response to the count exceeding a respective threshold. The process can also or instead be used for the opposite transmission direction, and provides fast power control using a single bit per time slot in a manner that is tolerant of errors in the transmitted power control bits.
