An aquarium pump for use both as an air pump and a water pump, includes an electromagnet, a diaphragm reciprocally driven by the electromagnet, an outer casing in which said electromagnet and said diaphragm are accommodated, an inlet and an outlet each outwardly protruding from said outer casing. The pump has an inlet passage provided in the outer casing, the inlet passage communicating the inlet and an inside of the diaphragm in a fluid-sealed manner, and an outlet passage provided in the outer casing, the outlet passage communicating the outlet and said inside of said diaphragm in a fluid-sealed manner. The inlet, the inlet passage, the inside of the diaphragm and the outlet constitute a fluid-sealed passage so that the aquarium pump functions both as an air pump and a water pump. The aquarium pump may preferably be used for an aquarium apparatus with a passage aquarium.

A lighting apparatus includes a lighting tube 10, a socket 20 and an adapter casing 30. The lighting tube 10 has a lighting tube main body 11, a seating portion 12 provided at a basal end portion of the lighting tube main body, electrode terminals 14 provided at the seating portion, and a connecting portion cover 40 covering a connecting portion formed between the lighting tube main body and the seating portion in a hermetically sealed manner. The adaptor casing 30 and the connecting portion cover 40 are detachably connected in a state in which the socket 20 into which the seating portion 12 of the lighting tube 10 is inserted is accommodated in the socket accommodation space 31, whereby the socket 20 and the seating portion 12 of the lighting tube 10 are hermetically sealed by the adaptor casing 30 and the connecting portion cover 40.

An air pump includes an outer casing and a pump unit provided in the outer casing. The pump unit includes a diaphragm, a diaphragm-driving unit for driving the diaphragm, and a pump casing to which the diaphragm is attached. The pump casing has an inside space which is divided into an air-inlet side chamber communicating with an inside space of the diaphragm via an inlet opening with an inlet valve and an air-outlet side chamber communicating with the inside space of the diaphragm via an outlet opening with an outlet valve. The pump unit further includes a silencing unit provided in at least one of the chambers. The silencing unit includes an inner pipe having an opened tip end and an outer pipe having a closed bottom end. The outer pipe loosely covers the inner pipe with the closed bottom end facing the opened tip end, whereby air to be introduced into the diaphragm or to be sent out of the diaphragm flows through the silencing unit while changing a flow direction of air at the closed bottom end of the outer pipe.
